The construction works of “Liberation War Sculpture” to commemorate the sacrifice of the people of Bangladesh in 1971 has been started at the heart of KUET Campus (in front of New Academic Building) on 12 August 2012 Sunday with great enthusiasms as one of the long-standing demands is going to be realized.Prof. Alamgir, the Vice-Chancellor of KUET, laid the foundation stone at the designated site in a simple ceremony in presence of the teachers, officers, employees and students of the universities. Before that, in a short speech in front of Central Library, he mentioned that after publishing the advertisement for two times in the National Newspapers and website, the model was selected from the 25 submitted models through an independent Jury Board comprising 5 external members from DU, RU & KU headed by Dr. Kamal Lohani (DG of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy). The model submitted by Shilpi Gopal Chandra obtained the first position and selected for the construction with some minor revision as suggested by the board.Later the Mr. Chandra and his team prepared the clay model and hence approved by the Board member after inspection with some minor observation. This sculpture will be constructed as a part of items of the project entitled as “Infrastructure Facilities Development Project for Khulna University of Engineering & Technology” recently approved by the ECNEC meeting (24 July 2012) headed by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
