  • Tree plantation week started on 23 July
    No alternative to producing more trees

  • Tree Plantation Week 2012 began at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) campus on Monday, 23 July, 2012. Tree Plantation Committee of KUET has been observing the week as part of the government’s country-wide tree plantation programme and will turn it into a social movement. Vice-chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present in the inaugural ceremony as Chief Guest and formally opened the function at around 11 am on Monday with planting a tree in front of the auditorium. Dean of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Faculty Prof. Dr. Ashraful Ghani Bhuiyan, Head of Civil Engineering Faculty Prof. Dr. Kh. Md. Shafiul Islam, Director of Planning and Development Prof. Dr. Md Abul Bashar, Head of Leather Engineering Faculty Prof. Dr. Tarapada Bhowmick, Head of Computer Science and Engineering Department Prof. Dr. Azharul Hasan and Register of KUET Mr. Md. Abdur Rouf, Chairman of Tree Plantation Committee of KUET, also the librarian Mr. Md. Akkas Uddin Pathan, Secretary of the committee Mr. Md. Harunur Rashid were present in the programme.


    Vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Alamgir in his inaugural speech called for planting more trees at homesteads, roadsides and other open spaces during the monsoon to protect environment from the impact of climate change. Terming trees as an inseparable part of life and livelihood and also the best friends of the people, KUET VC Prof. Alamgir urged all to plant fruit bearing plants, timber and medicinal trees and nurture those like their own children.


    Earlier, a colourful procession led by VC Prof. Alamgir was brought out from the administrative building that paraded all the campus and ended in front of the KUET auditorium. Deans of other Faculties, Departmental Heads, Directors, teachers, officers, staffs and students of KUET attended the procession.
