Discussion Meeting about National Mourning Day 2017 and 42th anniversary of assassination of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman held at KUET On august 22 At 5.00 pm at Student Welfare Center in campus arranged by the Bangladesh Chattra Leage, KUET. National Mourning Day was observed with due solemnity, marking the 42th anniversary of assassination of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. On august 15, Early in the morning the national flag was flown at half-mast and black flag was flown at the administrative building, vice-chancellor’s residential building and all the residential halls of student. At 9:00 a.m. a drawing competition for children was held in campus. Vice-Chancellor distributed the prize among the winners of drawing competition. At 10:30 a.m. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing wreaths at the portrait of the Bangabandhu. Later, Teachers Association, Director (Students’ Welfare), Officers Association, Fazlul Haque Hall, Lalan Shah Hall, Khanjahan Ali Hall, Dr. M A Rashid Hall, Rokeya Hall, Amar Ekushy Hall, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, KUET Chattra Leage, Employee Association(3rd class), Employee Association(4th class), Bangabandhu Karmachary Parishad, Master Roll Employee Association, Khulna Engineering University School & Govt. After Asr prayer a milad-mahfil was arranged at the KUET central mosque to pray for the departed soul of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

A day-long workshop on “Post Self-Assessment Improvement Plan” organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of KUET” was held on 12th August in the KUET conference room. Dean of Mechanical Engineering Faculty & Acting VC of KUET Prof. Dr. Mihir Ranjan Halder was delivered speech as chief guest. Prof. Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary, Head, Quality Assurance Unit, HEQEP, UGC was presented the technical session. Prof. Dr. Quazi Sazzad Hossain, Director, IQAC, KUET was presided over the Programme and welcome speech delivered by the additional director of IQAC, KUET Prof. Dr. K.M. Azharul Hasan.. Teachers & Officers of KUET took part in the workshop.

Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir inaugurated the construction work of Lab Building for Textile Engineering (TE) Department. The construction works was inaugurated by laying the foundation stone on 10th August, 2017 at 12:00 pm in campus. In a short speech Prof. Alamgir said, it’s a great news for the student of TE Department of the University that a well-designed lab building is going to construct which the students of this department have been demanding after established this department at KUET. He also thanked Honorable Prime Minister, Ministry of Education, UGC and all concerned related to this project. Director (Planning and Development) Prof. Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder, Head of the TE Department Dr. Mohammad Abdul Jalil, Chief Engineer A B M Mamunur Rashid spoke on the occasion. After laying the foundation stone, an special prayer was held. Other teachers, Officers and Staffs were also present in the function.

Farewell ceremony arranged by the Teachers Association of KUET for the retirement of professor of Mathematics Department Dr. Fouzia Rahman held on August 07, 2017 at 7:30 pm at Guest House cum Club Building in campus. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. President of Teachers Association Prof. Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder presided over the function. General Secretary of Teachers Association Prof. Dr. Sobahan Mia represented the program. Members of Teachers Association attended the function. In the function, crest and other gifts handed over to the departing Prof. Dr. Fouzia Rahman.

Memorandum of Understanding (Mou) Meeting has been held on 06 August, 2017 at 03.00pm-4.00pm at a2i Meeting Room of Hon’ble Prime Minister Office in Dhaka. In the meeting, the expert of Access to Information (a2i) Programme, provide an overview of a2i Programme and highlighted the need and scope of work for a MoU between a2i Programme and Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET). Following this discussion, Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir stressed the need for signing an MoU so that both parties can conduct research in their interested area. Also there was an open discussion, where other participants provided their thoughtful insights. In the meeting the other participants were the Registrar of KUET G. M. Shahidul Alam, Documentation Expert of a2i Programme Md. Mostafizur Rahman Khan, Development Associate of a2i Programme Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Research Assistant of a2i Programme Md. Ashraful Islam and Anika Jahan Elma.

The following topics were the objectives of the meeting :

• Discuss scope of activities to sign a MoU between a2i Programme and KUET.
• Identify possible areas of research and collaboration.
• Schedule a tentative date for signing MoU.

The following topics has come up from the open discussion episode :

• KUET shared their views, ideas and areas of interest in research and programmes that may benefit to both a2i and KUET.
• They have appreciated the internship programme and suggested to open one or two year scholarship programme for M.Sc and PhD students on a specific topic.
• They were willing to identify some specific areas of research where they can work in collaboration with a2i Programme.
• At the end of the meeting, an approximate date was fixed. That is -4th week of August, 2017.
• (v) a2i participants underpinned on joint programmes and research between a2i and KUET.

Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) observed with respect and honour the 156th birth anniversary of world famous scientist Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy. The birth anniversary program was held at Distance Learning Theater of KUET on August 02 at 3:15pm. Vice-Chancellor of kuet Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present there as the Chief Guest. Sankar Kumar Mallick, Associate Professor of Bangla Department of Govt. B. L. College, Khulna, was delivered memorial lecture and Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Motin, Department of Chemistry of KUET was delivered scientific lecture in the program. Director (Students’ Welfare) Prof. Dr. Sobahan Mia was delivered welcome speech. Speakers recalled the life and works of world famous scientist and noted philosopher Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy (APC Roy). The speakers recalled Roy, also a noted teacher, discoverer and philanthropist, while observing his 156th birth anniversary. Faculty members, officers, employees and students were present at that time.

Second Workshop: “Sharing the Survey Results: Self-Assessment and Quality Assurance in Higher Education in Mathematics Department, KUET held on 02 August, 2017. Vice-chancellor and Chairman of Quality Assurance Committee, Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present as the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Md. Mahbub Alam, Dean, Faculty of CE and Prof. Dr. Quazi Sazzad Hossain, Director of IQAC were present as Special Guest. Prof. Dr. M. M. Touhid Hossain, Head, Mathematics Department, was delivered the welcome speech. Prof. Dr. Md. Bazlar Rahman, Chairman SAC, Mathematics Department, presided over the function. Technical session “sharing the survey results of the stakeholders” was presented by the Prof. Dr. A. R. M. Jalal Uddin Jamali, Department of Mathematics, KUET. Teachers and Officers of KUET were present in the workshop.

Second Workshop: “Sharing the Survey Results” for the SA Program of the Civil Engineering Department held at KUET on 31 July, 2017. Vice-chancellor and Chairman of Quality Assurance Committee, Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present as the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Md. Mahbub Alam, Dean, Faculty of CE and Prof. Dr. Quazi Sazzad Hossain, Director of IQAC, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Harunur Rashid, Head of CE Department were present as Special Guest. Prof. Dr. Md. Monjur Hossain, Chairman SAC, CE Department presided over the function. Teachers and Officers of KUET were present in the workshop.

Workshop 2: “Sharing the Survey Results” for the Department of Leather Engineering, organized by the Self-Assessment Committee (SAC), Department of Leather Engineering held at KUET on 30 July, 2017. Vice-chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present as the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Mihir Ranjan Halder, Dean, Faculty of ME and Prof. Dr. Quazi Sazzad Hossain, Director of IQAC were present as Special Guest. Chairman of SAC and Head of LE department Dr. Md. Abul Hashem presided over the function. Welcome Address was delivered by Dr. Md. Elias Uddin, Member SAC, Department of Leather Engineering. In the workshop Technical Session was presented by Dr. Md. Abdullah-Al-Mamun, Member SAC, Department of LE. Teachers and Officers of KUET were present in the workshop.

Four days long basic training course (signal) for the officers of the Army of the country of Bangladesh, Srilanka, Sudan, Nepal & Palestine held at KUET. ECE Department of KUET organized this event form 16-19 July, 2017. On 19 July, the closing day of the event, VC of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir handed over a crest to the team leader of the Army and handed over certificate among the participants. Head of ECE Department Prof. Dr. Md. Faruque Hossain and other teachers of the ECE department were present in the event.

A new Ambulance inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir on 19 July, 2017 at 12 PM in front of Administrative Building. In a short speech Vice-Chancellor thanked Hon’ble Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan and all concerned related to get this Bus. Director (Planning & Development) Prof. Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder, Chairman of Transport Committee Prof. Dr. Mihir Ranjan Halder, Chief Engineer ABM Mamunur Rashid, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Rifat Sultana Shelley spoke on the occasion. Teachers, Officers, Staffs and Students of KUET were present in the function.

As a part of Series-of-Seminar, the Department of Building Engineering and Construction Management (BECM) was organized the 5th technical seminar on "Standard Practices on Project Management" on 18 July Tuesday at 3:00 PM- 4:30 PM at the Distance Learning Centre. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present the seminar as the Chief Guest. Dr. Kazi ABM Mohiuddin, Head, Dept. of BECM, Presided over the Seminar. Engr. Foyezur Rahman, 94315, RMP, PMP, PRINCE2 presented the technical session. Engineers, Planners, Architects, Academicians, Researchers, Officers & BECM students (4th year) were attended the seminar.

To construct a Temple in KUET campus architectural design presented by the architect in a meeting which was held at 13 July at 12 PM in the conference room of administrative building. Vice-Chancellor of KUET, Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir told, “I am happy for the taking initiative to construct a temple in KUET campus. It’s long desire from the traditional religions people of this University. He said ‘secularism’ had been dropped from the Constitution after the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. “The word ‘secularism’ doesn’t mean the absence of religion. It means the equal right of every religion,” he said. “Our Government have confirmed the rights of every religion in our country. He hoped people of all religions would live peacefully in our country. “We hope humanity will win,” he added. Teachers and Officers of KUET were present in the presentation.

Fresher’s Reception of the students of `16 batch and Farewell of outgoing graduate students of `12 batch of the department of Urban and Regional Planning (URP) was held on 12 July at 5:30 pm at the seminar room of IEM department. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Dean of CE Faculty Prof. Dr. Md. Mahbub Alam was present as the Special Guest. Tusar Kanti Roy, Assistant Professor, Department of URP, was presided over the ceremony. At the ceremony fresher’s students were received with flowers and crest handed over the graduate students. Among others teachers and students of URP department were present in the function.

General Meeting of The IIC-Innovation & Innovator Cell was held at the conference room of the university at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, 12 July 2017. Vice-Chancellor of KUET also Chairmen of The IIC Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir presided over the meeting. Deans, Directors of the institutes, Heads, the management team of The IIC, Expert Members of the IIC, members of Academic Council, Comptroller and related faculty members participated in the program. In the meeting the main discussed was Capacity Building, Technology Transfer and innovation Management Activities within KUET with the IIC-Innovation & Innovator Cell development in Bangladesh. CEO of IIC, KUET Mr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad was provided a brief presentation on the main agenda of the meeting.

On 12 July, 2017 at 11 am Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, VC of KUET, handed over the cheque of stipend from the “Arif Ahmed Scholarship Fund” at the office of the Vice-Chancellor. The stipend cheque was handed over among the 1st Year student of EEE Department Md. Biplob Hossain. Among others dean of EEE faculty Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rafiq, Head of EEE Department Prof. Dr. Md. Shahjahan, Registrar G M Shahidul Alam were also present during the event.

As a part of Series-of-Seminar, the Department of Building Engineering and construction Management (BECM) was organized the 4th technical seminar on “Behavior of UHPFRC using Conventional Materials and Methods” on 11 July Tuesday at 3:00 PM- 4:30 PM at the Seminar Room of Textile Engineering Department. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present the seminar as the Chief Guest. Dr. Kazi ABM Mohiuddin, Head, Dept. of BECM, Presided over the Seminar. Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman Sobuz, Assistant Professor of BECM Department presented the technical session. Engineers, Planners, Architects, Academicians, Researchers & BECM students (4th year) were attended the seminar.

External Peer Review Team (EPRT) visit KUET for the evaluation of self-assessment activities of the Physics department of the university. The team members also meet the Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir on 11 July 2017 at 12 pm at the office of the Vice-Chancellor. Prof. Dr. Sivali Sirimevan, Emeritus Professor, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, Prof. Dr. Md. Kamrul Alam Khan, Department of Physics, Jagannath University and Prof. Dr. Md. Moazzem Hossain Miah, Department of Physics, Chittagong University were the EPRT team members. This time Prof. Dr. Quazi Sazzad Hossain, Director, Institutional Quality Assurance Cell, KUET also present there. The EPRT team also meet with the dean of faculties, director of Institutes, director and additional director of IQAC, teachers, registrar, librarian, chief medical officer, controller of examination, officers, former students, post-graduate students, staffs and they also visited scientific labs, student residential halls, gymnasium, auditorium, central computer center of the university from July 9 to July 11.

Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, Vice Chancellor of KUET said that the drug could push the country towards destruction. He urged the students to stay away from drugs, and lead a safe and healthy life. He thanked the Students, Teachers, Officers & Staffs of the University for the co-operation of this campaign and raised their voices against drug abuse and illicit trafficking with the slogan “We Love People, We Love Nature, We Love KUET: “Say ‘No’ to Drugs, Ragging, Smoking & Waste Littering”. On 9 July at the 5th day of campaigning Vice-Chancellor has gone to different classes of CSE and BECM Department and urged all to come forward to save the young generation from the clutches of drug addiction. The campaign was aimed at creating awareness among the students about adverse impact of drug addiction, Ragging, Smoking & Waste Littering. Students also make committed with sign to abstain themselves from Drugs, Ragging, Smoking and Waste Littering while KUET VC campaigning the classes.
