  • Online Registration of KUET 1st year Admission began
    September 25, 2011
  • The online registration for the first year B.Sc. Engineering and Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning (BURP) courses admission of 2011-12 academic session of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) began on 25 September 2011 Sunday. The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir inaugurated the online registration with completing an applicant’s registration at a programme held at KUET Central Computer Centre. Among others chairman of the admission test committee and Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Prof. Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam, Deans of other faculties, Departmental Heads, Directors, Registrar and Controller of Examinations, System Analyst and other different officers related to the online registration were present in the function. The list of qualified applicants of the admission test will be displayed on October 24. In the academic session 2011-2012 this year a total number of 665 students will be admitted in eight Departments such as 120 seats for Civil Engineering(CE), 120 seats for Electrical & Electronic Engineering(EEE), 120 seats for Mechanical Engineering (ME), 60 seats for Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), 60 seats for Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), 60 seats for Industrial & Production Engineering(IPE), 60 seats for Urban & Regional Planning(URP), 60 seats for Lather Engineering (LE) Departments with five seats reserved. The online registration for the first year B.Sc. Engineering and Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning (BURP) courses admission will be end on 16 October 2011. The Admission Test will be held on 29 October Saturday at 10:00 am to 12:30 pm. Applicants are asked to collect every information about the registration from the university website www.admission-kuet.ac.bd. For any query about online registration & other information about the admission test one may communicate to Register’s Office of KUET (PABX: +880-41-769468 Ext.139) if they face any problem in the process.



  • Liberation War Sculpture at KUET is in progress: Site has been selected

  • Building of a memorandum Sculpture for the Liberation War of Bangladesh at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) is now in better progress. To accomplish the work the implementation committee, formed earlier, has recently selected the site on September 21 at a meeting, presided over by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir who is also the Chairman of the committee, was held at his own office.


    Director (Planning & development) Prof. Dr. Md. Keramat Ali Mollah, Director (students’ welfare) Prof. Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering Prof. Dr. Quazi Sazzad Hossain of KUET, director of the school of fine arts of Khulna University & Architect Dr. Afroza Parvin and Dr. Anirban Mostofa of Architecture discipline of Khulna University were present there as the committee members. Engr. Md Julfikar Hossain, Executive Engr. of KUET, was the member secretary of the committee was also present. Right after the meeting all the committee members walked about the campus right on the spots and finally selected the site (premise of the new academic building) to build it. It is to mention that earlier KUET authority formed an independent Jury board led by eminent personality Dr. Kamal Lohani, Director of Bangladesh Shilpokala Academy to select the model of the sculpture. Out of twenty five sample models, the Jury board selected the sculpture created by artist Gopal Chandra Pal. Last year KUET authority particularly the new Vice-Chancellor after taking the charge of the university decided to build a memorandum sculpture of the liberating war of 1971 at KUET premise to uphold the ever great Liberation War of 1971. It is now going to come in a success.
















     


  • National Mourning Day 2011 was observed at KUET with Great Soberness

  • On 15th August 2011, the 36th Anniversary of the martyrdom of the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman & the National Mourning Day 2011 was observed in KUET with due solemnity. The national flag was hoisted at half-mast and the Black flag were hoisted full in all the important places at KUET. KUET authority has taken several programs to observe the day although the varsity was in Ramadan vacation. Prof. Alamgir, the Vice-Chancellor of KUET addresses in a series of mourning programs and the discussion organized by KUET authority, KUET School and KUET Employees League, attended by the teachers, officers, employees and the students. The students of the three schools situated in KUET campus brought out a mourning procession wearing black badges on KUET Campus.  Prof. Alamgir said it was very well planned killing and deep rooted conspiracy to destroy the values and spirits of the country acquired through the war of independence. He asked all to work hard for the development of the country to show the respect to Bangabandhu. Prof. Alamgir also distributed the prizes to the students of the school who won the positions in the art, essay and poem recitation competitions.  In the afternoon, a special prayer was offered at the central mosque of KUET for the salvation of the departed soul of those killed in the brutal killing of the history on 15th August 1975


     



  • Meeting with the Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina

  • On 02 August, 2011, all the Vice-Chancellor of Public University of Bangladesh leaded by the Hon’ble Chairman (State Minister) Prof. AK Azad Chowdhury and the Members of University Grants Commission (UGC) meet the Hon’ble Prime Minister of the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina at the PMO’s office, Tejgaon, Dhaka. The meeting lasted for more than 2hrs and the discussion was held on various issues of the public universities as well as the functioning of UGC.  On the occasion, Prof. Alamgir, the VC of KUET, invited Hon’ble Prime Minister to visit KUET in the next year 2012 at her suitable schedule. He also emphasized the need for the change of present structures of UGC to materialize the initiatives of the present government regarding the enhancement and improvement of the quality and scope of Higher Education in Bangladesh. In this context Government can consider the establishment of Higher Education Commission with necessary empowerment.



  • Inauguration of AIF Mobilization Workshops

  • On 9th July 2011, Prof. Dr. Alamgir, the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of KUET, inaugurated a daylong Academic Innovation Fund Mobilization workshop at  the Seminar Room of EEE Department organized by the Faculty of EEE of KUET. Prof. Dr. Rafiqul Islam, Dean of EEE Faculty, Prof. Dr. Abdur Rafique, Head EEE and  Prof. K.M. Azharul Hassan, Head CSE delivered speeches in the occasion attended by the teachers of the various department of the faculty. Prof. Alamgir emphasis the need of research to achieve the target of the university in order to meet the needs of the country and as well as the people. He encouraged the faculty members to submit the project under Second Call for Proposals of AIF of UGC’s HEQEP project. He also congratulated the two AIF sub-project managers who succeeded in the first call from KUET.  Similar workshops were also held under the Faculty of ME on 9th July and under the Faculty of CE on 12th July.


     



  • Oral Examination on Ph.D. Dissertation Physics held at KUET

  • The oral examination of the Ph.D. dissertation of a student (Saraot Noor)  of the Department of Physics of KUET was held on last 3 July 2011. The Vice-Chancellor of KUET, Prof. Alamgir was also present during presentation of the thesis before the examination board supervised Prof. S.S. Sikder. The title of the thesis is “Study of Additive Effects on the Structural, Magnetic and Transport Properties of the Cabalt Ferrities”.  The examination board members are Prof. Dr. Amitab Goshai (India), Dr. AKM Abdul Hakim, Dr. Dilip Kumar Shaha, Prof. Dr. Abu Hasan Bhuiyan and Prof. Md. Rafiqul Islam.


     



  • Workshops on e-resources administration & exploration were held at KUET
    June 19, 2011
  • On 19th June 2011, e-resources administration and exploration workshop were held in KUET jointly organized by Bangladesh INASP, PERII  Consortium and the Central Library of KUET, while the program was sponsored by INASP and KUET. In the workshop, teachers, officials and post-graduate students from KUET, KU and other university were attended. The workshop started with an inaugural session, in which Prof. Alamgir, the Vice-Chancellor of KUET and Dr. M.A. Mazed, Director BAAS were present as the Chief Guest and Special Guest, Respectively. The session was presided over by the Librarian (in-charge) of KUET, while Dr. Abduallah Shams Bin Tariq of RU gave a theme lecture. Prof. Alamgir described his experiences about the difficulties to search the relevant literature from various journals. So, he requested all concern to take the advantages about the availability of journal through on-line as provided by INASP


     



  • Team from the Ministry of Education and UGC visited KUET to see the progress of ongoing project

  • On 18th June 2011, a team of high officials from the Ministry of Education and University Grants Commission (UGC) visited KUET to observe the progress of the construction of different infrastructural facilities at KUET under umbrella projects. The visiting team comprising the Planning Chief Mr. Illias Hossain, Assistant Chief Mr. Siddiqur Rahman, Executive Engr. Mojibur Rahman and Director (P&D) of UGC Mr. Shamsul Kabir. They discuss the issues with the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Alamgir and visited various sites the ongoing project. Prof. Dr. Keramot Ali Molla, Prof. Dr. S.S. Sikder, Prof. Dr. Kh. Shafiul Islam, Engr. ABM Manunur Rashid, Engr. Anisur Rahman Bhuiyan, of KUET were also present


     



  • World Environment 2011 was observed in KUET

  • On 06 June 2011, the world environment was observed in KUET jointly organized by the Department of Civil Engineering and Urban & Regiional Planning. This program is supported by the Department of Environment, Khulna under the ministry of Environment & Forests and the NGO “Shushilan”. This is first time in the history of KUET to celebrate the World Environment Day, this year the slogan is “Forests: Nature in your service”. The event included the plantation of trees in the campus, a colorful procession in the campus and the discussion on the topic “Sundarbans: past, present and future” held at the Auditorium of the university. The keynote paper was presented by Mr. Salahuddin and Tushar Kati Roy of URP Department of KUET.  Prof. Alamgir, the Vice-Chancellor of KUET was present in the event as Chief Guest, while Prof. Dr. MA.Bashar, Dean of CE, Prof. Dr. Rezaul Karim, Head URP, Prof. Q.Sazzad Hossain, Head CE, Dr. Tarun Kanti Sikder, Director DoE and Mr. Mosatafa Nurruzzaman of Shsushilan were spoke on the occasion as the special Guests. A large number of teachers, Officers, Employees and students were attended in the discussion.



  • Trial of War Criminal and Restoration of 1972 Constitution were Demanded in KUET

  • May 08, 2011, a discussion was held in KUET on war crimes held in Bangladesh in 1971 during the liberation war and to go back to the main constitution of the country established in 1972. In the event, Shahriar Kabir, the noted writes cum journalist and acting chairman of Gatak Dalal Nirmul Committee presented the Keynote Paper, while Prof. Alamgir, the Vice-Chancellor of KUET was present as the Chief Guest. In the meeting, Dr. Sk. Baharul Alam, Freedom Fighter Sk. Abdul Qaiyum were present as the special Guests.The meeting was presided over by Prof. Dr. S.S. Sikder, the Director of Students’ Welfare. Mr. Shariar Kabir recalled the historical achievement of Bengali Nation and it final stage, the independence of Bangladesh under the heroic and unique leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The speakers including the students demanded the immediate trial of the War Crimes took place in Bangladesh by the collaborators during in 1971 and the restoration of Main Constitution of the Country to make a Bangladesh a true democratic and pro-people country. A large number of teachers, officers, employees, students and people from the surrounding areas attended in the meeting


     



  • Bangla Nabobarsha 1418 was Celebrated in KUET in a Festive Mood

  • On 14 April 2011, Bangla Nabobarsha 1418 was celebrated in KUET campus with very much enthusiasms and festive mood. In this year, the festival got extra edge as the Bangla Nabobarsha were not celebrated in the campus in the past two years. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir inaugurated the program with brief speech at 8:30AM, which started with welcoming songs and then he leaded a colorful procession with various festoons and placard. Different Hall arranged the stalls of Bengali traditional food and toys, while various types of traditional events were arranged at the play ground and the mall in front of the Auditorium for the first time in KUET. Teachers, Officers, employees, students as well as people from the adjacent areas participated and enjoyed the events






























  • Delegation from KUET met with the Hon’ble Education Minister

  • On 3rd April 2011, a team from KUET headed by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of KUET, Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir comprising Prof. S.S. Sikder, Prof. Quazi Sazzad Hossain, Prof. Tarapodo Bhowmik and Mr. Shahidul Alam met the Hon’ble Minister of Education Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid MP at his office in Dhaka. Prof. Alamgir congratulated the minister for dynamic leadership which already made very positive changes in the educational sector through the establishment of Education Policy 2010 and presented him a crest from KUET on this success. The delegation briefly narrated the various aspects of the KUET in terms of present status and future prospects and plan and sought the direct intervention of the Hon’ble Minister regarding the a newly submitted DPP, sanction of posts and the financial allotment. Prof. Alamgir also informed him that the university is willing to hold it 2nd Convocation in near future and his cooperation was sought in this context. The Hon’ble minister gave the patience hearing and assured to do his best and he urged the delegation to work hard and improve the academic and research activities within the limited resources for the fulfill the dream of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman


     



  • Selection of the Model of Sculpture of Independence War to be constructed in KUET

  • On 2nd April 2011, an independent Jury Board headed by Dr. Kamal Lohani, Director General of Shilphakala Academy of Bangladesh, Dhaka, selected the model of the Sculpture of the Independence War of Bangladesh to be constructed at the KUET campus while they met at the Conference Room of KUET. Total 22 models were submitted to this end in response of the advertisement published two times in daily national and local news appears. Among the models the jury board unanimously selected the model submitted by Mr. Gopal Chandra for the construction Independence War Sculpture at KUET Campus. However, other two sculptures were also selected for the 2nd and 3rd position to provide them certificate and prize money.   The  jury board comprising the Head of Department of Sculpture of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University,  Head of Department of Sculpture of the Institute of Fine Arts of Rajshahi University and the Director of Fine Arts, Khulna University. The Vice-Chancellor of KUET, Director of Students Welfare and other teachers and officers were present there.  The selected model comprising three figures and the height is 17feet from feet to head. However, the jury board provided some modification regarding the platform of the sculpture.

  • Independence Day was Observed in KUET in a Befitting manner

  • 26 March 2011, the Independence Day was observed in KUET by taking several programs to highlight the true history of the war of independence and the sacrifice of the people. Early in the morning nation flag was hoisted in all the important places of KUET, while the day started in the midnight by the Vice-Chancellor of the KUET observed silence after placing the wreaths at the at the martyrs of Mass Killing during independence war of Bangladesh at Gollamari, Khulna. The teachers, officers, employees and students of KUET were also paid their homage. The day long program consists of Children Art completion, Discussion meeting, Flim show, Debate, Essay competition, Drama and the cultural programs. A special prayer also arranged at the mosque of KUET.


  • The Birthday of Bangabhandhu was observed at KUET in a Festive Mood

  • The 91th Birth Day and the Nation Children Day, 17 March 2011, was observed in KUET in a very festive mood. At the beginning of the day, the Vice-Chancellor of the KUET observed silence after placing the wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman placed at the Shaheed Minar of KUET Campus. The teachers, officers, employees, students and other organizations as well as the common people pay homage to Bangabandhu. The students of the three school of KUET also brought out a jubilant procession in the campus leaded by the Vice-Chancellor of KUET. Later a discussion meeting followed by a brief cultural program was held at KUET Auditorium. Prof. Alamgir briefly narrated the colorful life sketch of Bangabandhu and his sacrifice for the birth of this country and dignity of this nation and urged all to work hard to materialize the dream of him through the development of Sonar Bangla. Later, he distributed the prizes to the students who won in different completion


     



  • Major Tournaments of the students were completed in KUET successfully

  • In the first quarter of the year 2011, the major tournament of students such as Inter Hall Cricket, Volley Ball and Badminton were completed successfully organized by the Director of Students’ Welfare. Prof. Alamgir, the Vice-Chancellor of KUET distributed the Championship trophy to the Champion team. In Cricket, Lalan Shah Hall, in Volley Ball Dr. M.A. Rashid Hall and while in Badminton Amar Ekushey Hall became the champion. Prof. Dr. S.S. Sikder, DSW, Provosts of the  hall, Deputy and Assistant DWS, teachers, officers, employees and a good number of students enjoyed the games and presented in the prize giving ceremony.  Prof. Alamgir thanked to all concerned for the hard work to complete the tournament successfully and he also urged the students to engaged themselves also in the co-curriculum activities because without good health and mind one cannot concentrated in the study and research.


     



  • Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language Day Were Observed at KUET
    February 21, 2011
  • 21 February, Amar Ekushey, the Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language Day was observed in KUET in a befitting manner. The day started with the placement Flower at the Shaheed Minar of KUET at Zero Hour by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of KUET. He was followed by the President of Teachers’ Association, Director of Students’ Welfare, Students of different halls leaded by the Provosts, Officer and Employees Association, different Students’ Organization. Besides these, different programs were also taken in the line of the day to remember the sacrifice of lives of students in 21 February in the year 1952 to protect the mother language Bangla


     



  • WasteSafe 2011 International Conference on SWM was held in KUET

  • The 2nd International Conference on Solid Waste Management in Developing Countries – WasteSafe 2011 was held at the Department of Civil Engineering, KUET, from 13 to 15 February 2011. The conference was jointly organized by the International Waste Working Group (IWWG), Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (Bangladesh),Bauhaus University of Weimar (Germany), University of Padova (Italy), and the ORBIT Association. The Conference was held in the halls of the Civil Engineering Building of KUET at Khulna, Bangladesh. More than 170 academicians, researchers, professionals, students and other interested persons from 16 different countries submitted their scientific contributions and registered to attend in the conference. The Inaugural Ceremony was presided over by the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Prof. Muhammed Alamgir and addressed by the IWWG Managing Board member Prof. Raffaello Cossu from the University of Padova, Italy and Prof. Echard Kraft, from the Bauhaus University of Weimar, Germany. The Mayor of the Khulna City Corporation, Mr. Talukder Abdul Khaleque delivered his speech as the Chief Guest. The 3days event was completed successfully under the Chairmanship of Prof. Alamgir and finally,it was decided that the next WasteSafe 2013 - 3rd International Conference will take place in Khulna, Bangladesh on 10-12 February 2013 at the same venue.


     



  • Orientation of First Year Undergraduate Students at KUET

  • On February 10, 2011, the class of 1st year undergraduate students has started at KUET for the academic session of 2010-11. To celebrate this red letter day of the first year students who just entered in the level of higher education, Central orientation was held at the KUET Auditorium presided over by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir  and attended by the Deans of the Faculty, Head of the Department, Directors, Provosts of the Hall, Teachers and other High Officials of the university. Total 665 first year students were attended in the orientation. Along with the existing six undergraduate engineering departments, this year two new Departments namely, Urban and Regional Planning (URP) and Leather Engineering (LE) having 60 new students in each department started the journey. As a result the intake has increased by 22%. In the ceremony, Prof. Alamgir urged all the students to study hard and to maintain discipline in the campus in order to prepare themselves to take the challenges of modern technologies to built a poverty free modern democratic Bangladesh to fulfill desire of the Father of the Nationa, Bangabandhu Shieikh Mujibur Rahman


     



  • Presentation on Higher studies in USA & Student Visa Processing at KUET

  • On 25 January 2011, Deputy Counselor Chief and Student’s Advisor of USA Embassy in Bangladesh, Mr. Bill Hammaker and Ms. Israt Jahan, respectively, with a team from the embassy of USA visited KUET and attended in a discussion meeting with the students and teachers at the Auditorium of KUET to explain the systems and scopes for the Higher Studies and Visa processing for USA. In the event, the visiting experts explain various aspects of higher studies in the USA universities and recent steps taken by the embassy to make process easier to get USA visa. Prof. Alamgir, the Vice-Chancellor of KUET handed over the KUET crest to Mr. Bill Hammaker as a token of appreciation for visiting KUET.


  • Inauguration of Construction Works of Bangabandhu Hall

  • On 16 January 2011, Prof. Dr. Alamgir, the Vice-Chancellor of KUET laid down foundation stone and inaugurated the construction works of the largest male students’ hall of KUET, 550 seated,  which is named after the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in simple ceremony. The Hall consists of four blocks and the constructions works was given to three construction Firms through the open tendering process. On the occasion, the teachers, officers, employees, the students and the representatives of the construction Firms were present. The chief engineer (in-charge) narrated the details of the project and mentioned that first phase will be completed by the middle of 2012. In the inauguration Prof. Alamgir mentioned that KUET is proud to start the construction of its largest dormitory in the name of the Father of the Nation and he urged to all concern to complete the project with great sincerity in the scheduled span. He hoped that the problems regarding the residential facilities of the students will be lessening due to the construction of this hall.
