Dr. Md. Ashraful Islam joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering as a Professor in August, 2022. He received his PhD in Aerospace Engineering from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Australia in 2018. He also completed his Master's in Aerospace Engineering from the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Taiwan in 2012, and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh in 2005.

The major research areas of Dr. Islam are: Aerospace Structure and Design, UAV Design: VTOL UAV, micro flying robot, Drone application in sustainable resource management and industry 4.0;Bio and nature inspire materials, Metamaterials, Additive manufacturing; Computational Mechanics: CFD and FEA of advanced systems.
