  • Delegates from Gates Foundation and SNV Visited KUET

  • A High level team from Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and SNV Netherlands Development Organisation Visited KUET on 27 March, 2017. The delegates met the Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir in his office at 8:30am. The team comprises (i) Mr. Brian Arbogast, Director, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Program, Global Development, BMGF, (ii) Mr. Dennis Mwanza, Deputy Director, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, BMGF, (iii) Dr. Roshan Shrestha, Technical Lead South Asia, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Program, Global Development, BMGF, (iv) Ms. Megan Ritchie, Managing Director, WASH, SNV Netherlands Development Organisation, (v) Mr. Jason Belanger, Country Director, Bangladesh, SNV Netherlands Development Organisation, (vi) Mr. Rajeev Munankami, Senior Advisor and Team Leader FSM Programme, SNV Netherlands Development Organisation, (vii) Mr. Md. Sahidul Islam, Engineering Advisor, FSM Programme, SNV Netherlands Development Organisation and (viii) Mr. Shahidul Islam, Governance Advisor, FSM Programme, SNV Netherlands Development Organisation. Head of Civil Engineering Department of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammad Harunur Rashid and Professor of Civil Engineering Department of KUET Dr. Khondoker Mahbub Hasan also present in the meeting. KUET is one of the key partners of this FSM Programme project. The team also met the relevant faculty members and discuss about the technical collaboration on FSM and future potentials. After discussion, the delegates visited the environmental laboratory and the work of the scholarship grantees. SNV Netherlands Development Organisation has started a program in three southern cities of Bangladesh to develop a pro-poor, accountable, safe and sustainable Faecal sludge management services for the urban context in Bangladesh. The programme aims to make hygienic Faecal sludge emptying services accessible and affordable to the urban poor through interventions that will make the sanitation sector more sustainable, competitive and dynamic. This project is being implemented under the leadership of local authorities in Khulna City Corporation, Kushtia and Jhenaidah Paurashava and SNV, while KUET, KU, KWASA, WaterAid Bangladesh providing necessary technical and other supports. .
