Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) celebrated its 12th founding anniversary and University Day 2015 on September 01, 2015 through a series of colourful programmes. Member of University Grants Commission of Bangladesh Professor Dr. Mohammad Mohabbat Khan inaugurated the program as the the Chief Guest. After that a grand rally was brought out by the students, teachers, officers, staff, ex-students, persons from civil societies and many others paraded at the University campus as well as Fulbarigate area of Khulna city with colourful banner, festoon and placard, carriage drawn by horses, drum music etc. at around 10:00 am. To mark the day various colourful programmes were taken such as hoisting national and university flags, blood donor camp, tree plantation, technical poster exhibition, technical seminar, discussion meeting, football charity match, special Doa-Mahfil at the mosque and cultural programme.
Earlier, the chief guest inaugurated the programme by hoisting the National Flag and releasing balloons & pigeons. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Professor Dr. Muhammed Alamgir hoisted the university flag. Administrator of Khulna District Council Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid attended the programme as special guest. Dean of Civil Engineering Faculty and the president of university founding anniversary committee 2015, Professor Dr. Shebendra Shekhar Shikder delivered address of welcome.
The Chief Guest said that Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) has been playing its role very significantly and contributing in the field of Science & Engineering and Research. Speaking as the Chief Guest on the University Day of KUET at 1st September 2015, he expressed his warm gratitude and shared his highly satisfactory feelings after coming here at KUET. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, Vice-Chancellor of KUET, presided over all the events on this prestigious Day of KUET hoped that KUET will soon be turned into the ‘Centre of Excellence’ in the field of Engineering education and research in the south-western region of Bangladesh.
In the seminar & discussion meeting preside over Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, Professor Dr. Mohammad Mohabbat Khan spoke as the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Shebendra Shekhar Shikder, Dean of Faculty of CE, Prof Dr. Md. Syed Ali Molla, Dean of Faculty of ME, Prof. Dr. Md. Nurunnabi Mollah, Dean of Faculty of EEE were present as the Special Guests while Dr. G.G. Md. Nawaz Ali, Director In-Charge of Students’ Welfare delivered address of welcome in the meeting.
Established as Khulna Engineering College in 1967, the institution started its academic activities on June 03 in 1974 with a total of 120 students under three departments on the special direction of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Later, it was remodeled as Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT) in 1986 and was upgraded to a university on September 01 in 2003 with the name 'Khulna University of Engineering and Technology'.
