  • KUET celebrated 11th founding anniversary

  • Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) celebrated its 11th founding anniversary on the campus at 1stth September, 2014 with massive joy and enthusiasms. Established as Khulna Engineering College in 1967, the institution started its academic activities on June 3 in 1974 with a total of 120 students under three departments. Later, it was remodeled as the Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT) in 1986 and was upgraded to a University on September 01 in 2003 with the name of “Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET)”.

    To mark the day, students, teachers and staffs of the university took out a colorful procession. Beginning from the KUET administration building, the procession paraded different streets on the campus led by Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Muhammed Alamgir. Earlier, the VC inaugurated the anniversary programs by releasing balloons and pigeons and hoisted the national flag while Dean of Civil Engineering Faculty also the president of University founding anniversary committee-2014 Professor Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder hoisted the university flag at the campus. After the procession, tree plantation, blood donation campaign and poster session were held at KUET auditorium and its adjacent area.

    A technical seminar presented by Dr. G.G. Md. Nawaz Ali, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Md. Rafizul Islam, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering (CE), Md. Helal-An-Nahiyan, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) were held at auditorium.

    Then a discussion were held at the auditorium while vice-chancellor Professor Dr Muhammed Alamgir was the chief guest. While addressed as the chief guest at the discussion Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir urged the students to be more serious and active to acquire knowledge to make good results in all the examinations and to face the challenges of the 21th century. “The brilliant and meritorious students are the assets of the country and they will lead the nation towards development in future by making the best use of their merit and talents,” he said. KUET achieved a high reputation at home and abroad for its unique academic and research environment and becomes natural choice for the fresh meritorious students to be enrolled, he added. Chaired by the Dean of Civil Engineering Faculty also the president of University founding anniversary committee-2014 Professor Dr Shibendra Shekhar Shikder, the discussion was addressed, among others, by Dean of Mechenical Engineering(ME) Faculty Prof. Dr. Md. Syed Ali Molla, Dean of Electrical and Electronic Engineering(EEE) Faculty Prof. Dr. Md. Nurunnabi Mollah and Director of Student Welfare Prof. Dr. Md. Osman Gani. Director of institute, heads of different departments, directors, hall provosts, other teachers, officers, staffs and students were also attended in the discussion.

    Screening of short film was displayed at the auditorium, laboratories of different Faculties were opened for visitors and a charity football match was also held on the campus ground. Special prayer was offered at the university central mosque after Asr prayers. University’s cultural organisations and theater groups organised cultural programs at the campus.
