  • Week Long Tree Plantation Program Begins at KUET

  • A week-long Tree Plantation Week-2014 organised by Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) began on the campus on 13 august, Wednesday as part of the government's country wide tree plantation programme for turning it a social movement. KUET Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammed Alamgir inaugurated Tree Plantation Week-2014 as chief guest on KUET campus.

    KUET VC Prof. Alamgir advised every citizen for planting tree saplings of medicinal, timber and fruit bearing trees everywhere, including the homesteads, academic institutional campuses, roadsides and other open spaces during the current rainy season for increasing the forest areas. So, there is no alternative to produce local and indigenous fruits on a large scale to meet the growing demand of nutrition of the people and to face bad effects of climate change.

    Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of social forest division, Bagerhat zone Md Mizanur Rahman was the special guest. Convener of the KUET Tree Plantation Organising Committee librarian Akkas Uddin Pathan presided over the opening session.

    Earlier, on the occasion, a colourful procession led by VC Professor Dr. Alamgir was brought out from Administrative Building that paraded the main roads on the campus and ended at the new accademic Building. Deans of other Faculties, Departmental Heads, Directors, teachers, officers, staffs and students of KUET attended the procession. Then, KUET VC Prof. Alamgir planting a tree in front of the Liberation War Sculpture ‘Durbar Bangla`.
