Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) celebrated it’s 10th Founding Anniversary on Sunday, September 01, 2013. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, MP, has claimed the advancement of Information and Communication Technology in the country has brought out positive changes in the fields of knowledge and job. He urged the science and technology-based universities to play a supportive role alongside the government’s endeavours in building digital Bangladesh. The minister called upon the students to take challenges and opportunities of the 21st century to build themselves as worthy citizens in the future. Nahid further said, “We will build such a new generation, which will be competent in science and technology, imbued with ethical values and patriotism, and responsible to people”. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid gave the call as chief guest of opening season of the 10th founding anniversary of KUET. KUET vice-chancellor Prof Dr Muhammed Alamgir presided over the opening season. VC Prof Alamgir in his speech hoped the university would emerge as the best institution of learning and researches.Dean of Mechanical Engineering Faculty Prof. Dr. A.N.M. Mizanur Rahman also speech in the opening season.
A grand procession was brought out by students, teachers, officers, staffs of the entire department from the Administrative Building that paraded to whole campus and Phulbarigate area with colorful banner, festoon and placards at 10:30 am. Later, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid inaugurated Liberation War Sculpture ‘Durbar Bangla’ at the center of campus and ‘Bangabandhu, Mukthijudha & Bangladesh Corner’ at Central Library of KUET. The programmes taken to mark the day included hoisting national and university flags, tree plantation,technical poster season, technical seminar. A discussion meeting was also held at the Auditorium with KUET vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir in the Chair. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid was present there as the Chief Guest. Dean of Mechanical Engineering Faculty Prof Dr. A.N.M. Mizanur Rahman and Dean of Civil Engineering Faculty (in-charge) Prof. Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder, Director (Students’ Welfare) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Harunur Rashid were present as special guests.
A charity football match between Teachers and Students of KUET was also held at the play ground at 04:00 pm. A milad mahfil was also held at the university central mosque. Later, at 07.00 p.m. a cultural programmes was held at the auditorium. The main building and the roads on campus were decorated with colourful lights.
Established in 1967 as Khulna Engineering College at Phulbarigate of Khulna city, the institution was upgraded as Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT) on July 1, 1986 and later it was elevated to the status of a full-fledged Engineering and Technology University named Khulna University of Engineering and Technology on September 01, 2003.
