A three-day long workshop and the inauguration of Implementation of Management Information System (MIST) under the Sundarbans Environmental and Livelihoods Security (SEALS) project of Forest Department held at the Central Library of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) during 14-16 Nov, 2012 conducted by CEGIS. The Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present in the inaugural session as the Chief Guest. Senior Program Co-Ordinator of IUCN Dr. Ishtiak Sobhan presided over the inaugural function. Head of Computer Science and Engineering Department of KUET Prof Dr. K M Azharul Hasan, Conservator of Forest and Project Director Akbar Hossain, Director, Ecology, CEGIS Motaleb Hossain Sarker were present as the Sepcial Guests. Center for Environmental and Geographical Information Services (CEGIS), a Public Trust under the Ministry of Water Resources, IUCN, MIST under the SEALS project of Forest Department. The project is financed by European Union (EU). The MIST is user-friendly web based software with some GIS functionality. The main aim of the project is to implement the MIST for efficient patrolling and monitoring of biodiversity for conservation of ecosystem at Sundarbans. The forest officials will be able to conduct the forest patrolling efficiently using the MIST and monitor the forest offence, biodiversity and ecosystem. The Software is able to generate tabular format report, graphs and maps using the MIST.
