Four Specializations of Textile Engineering
Yarn Manufacturing Engineering Yarn Manufacturing (spinning) sector is one of the major sectors in Textile. This sector produces about 270 Million kg yarn through 88 lakh spindles of ring and 2.4 lakh of rotors from 350 Spinning Mills. The YME Department in KUET educates undergraduate students for a career in textile industries, research and quality organizations and also relevant other fields at mid to top level position at respective field that seek to develop leadership and promote academic excellence in both the student and the faculty. An essential component of the department’s mission is the development of new knowledge through research and the subsequent transfer of this knowledge to production industries.

Fabric Manufacturing Engineering In this department we aim to create future fabric specialists who will lead the textile world. We aim to have rich laboratories for the fields of weaving, knitting and design. A very friendly and congenial atmosphere exists for fostering a friendly and healthy teacher-student relationship.

Wet processing Engineering Wet processing engineering is one of the major streams in textile engineering refers to textile chemical processing engineering and applied science. Wet process is usually done on the manufactured assembly of interlacing fibers, filaments, and/or yarns having substantial surface (planar) area in relation to its thickness, and adequate mechanical strength to give it a cohesive structure. In other words, wet process is done on manufactured fabric. The processes of this stream is involved or carried out in aqueous stage and thus it is called wet process which usually covers pre-treatment, dyeing, printing and finishing.

Apparel Manufacturing Engineering The apparel manufacturing industry employs those who work on production assembly lines, performing specific tasks in the process of clothing creation, as well as non-production workers that are responsible for staff management and product operations. Technological advances in these professions have allowed for more efficient performance in the field, utilizing computer-based and automated equipment. In December 2013, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported an average hourly income of $17.34 for the field of apparel manufacturing as a whole.

Students Activities

Textile Engineering Students Association (TESA) is non-political association under the Department of Textile Engineering. Besides, the students are involved in various extra-curricular activities like arranging different competitions and movie show, publishing magazines and wall magazines etc.

Upcoming Plan

Current textile engineering lab is well equipped with ultra-modern and sophisticated machineries and many others like FTIR, SEM analysis, Nano-finishing applicable machines will be installed within a very short period of time, These facilities will promote to open master's and Ph.D. programs in near future extending research scope and training of academic staffs.
