Laboratories

To enrich mechatronics-related practical knowledge and accelerate research-based education, the department plans to establish world-class multidisciplinary laboratories related to Mechatronics Engineering. The proposed laboratories, which are under development are as follows:

Mechatronic System Design Lab:

The Mechatronic System Design Lab promotes hands-on experience in mechatronic system design and its implementations in real-life and industry through practical projects. This lab is aimed at students interested in learning, practicing, and promoting the fascinating discipline of mechatronics. There are significant laboratory-based design experiences that stimulate the interest of MTE students in hands-on, interdisciplinary, collaborative learning. Students can build fundamental systems like sensor-based control systems and other comparable systems using their project concepts and stages knowledge.

This Laboratory offers the following sessional courses to conduct:

  • MTE 1102 : Mechatronic Systems
  • MTE 4000 : Project and Thesis
  • MTE 4108 : Design of Mechatronic Systems

Sensor and Instrumentation Lab:

In the Sensor and Instrumentation lab, students can gain a hands-on introduction to sensor technology and applications. Sensing techniques such as capacitive, inductive, optical, ultrasonic, and others can be investigated. Computer control, sampling, data collecting, and analysis procedures are all explained in the context of real-world events. Students can enhance their analytical and communication skills by completing open-ended laboratory tasks.

  • MTE 4000 : Project and Thesis

Hardware, Modelling and Simulation Lab:

The Hardware, Modelling and Simulation Lab provides students with the necessary programming and simulation resources and various hardware supplies to satisfy their Mechatronics Engineering requirements. Students may also have sufficient facilities to design, model, simulate, analyze, and implement random systems using the most up-to-date application packages and other engineering tools.

This Laboratory offers the following sessional courses to conduct:

  • MTE 2100 : CAD Practice
  • MTE 2210 : System Simulation
  • MTE 3114 : Numerical Analysis and Statistics
  • MTE 4000 : Project and Thesis

Control System Lab:

The Control System Lab enables the students to strengthen their understanding of the design and analysis of control systems. This lab covers the fundamentals of various analog and digital Electro-Mechanical control systems, Hydraulic and Pneumatic control systems, PID controllers, PLCs, and servo-systems. This lab also teaches students how to use the MATLAB control system toolbox and the MATLAB Simulink toolbox in MATLAB. In addition, students can do a useful study on the characteristics of many different types of linear and non-linear compensators and controllers like PID, LQR, LQG, H8, Fuzzy, Optimal controller, etc., as well as multivariable control theory, here.

Power Electronics and Machine Drive Lab:

The Power Electronics and Machine Drive Lab provides students with hands-on experience with the power electronics fundamentals and knowledge of the subject's unique measurement and design techniques. It comprises all power electronic converters, DSP and FPGA-based DC and AC drives, servo system, electric machine control mechanism with industrial and automotive applications, Digital Integrated Kits, and a variety of demo kits, including SCR characteristics and a study kit for DC motor control with a chopper and so on.

Software Engineering Lab:

The Software Engineering Lab teaches students about software engineering, which is a computer-assisted method for planning and directing software development, especially on large, complex projects. It emphasizes the use of automated analytical tools and techniques for large-scale software development and hands-on experience planning and developing large-scale software systems. This lab also supports a complete grasp of Software Engineering principles and concepts through object-oriented modelling, software design and architecture, human-computer interaction, and software quality. In addition, students can produce physical software engineering artifacts at various stages of the software life cycle.

Machine Learning Lab:

The Machine Learning Lab provides advanced scientific understanding in data-efficient machine learning, which refers to the capacity of learning in complicated domains without a vast amount of data. Theoretical research on optimization, statistical machine learning, and deep learning approaches are available to students. They can create self-learning decision-making systems that can learn from little input quantities while also closing the perception-action-learning loop.

  • MTE 4104 : Digital Signal Processing and Machine Vision

Digital Electronics and Microprocessor Lab:

In the Digital Electronics and Microprocessor Lab, students can learn how to design, built, and test digital logic circuits, microprocessor-controlled systems, and embedded systems. Students become familiar with various equipment and instruments such as CRO, multi-meters, signal generator, digital trainer board, digital-analog training system, logic probe, IC tester, digital meters, data switched, wide ranges of digital ICs, microcontroller, microprocessors, PLC, sensors, and controllers to instruct real-time hardware programming.

Robotics Lab:

The Robotics Lab provides space and equipment for sophisticated system research and development with applications in manufacturing, agriculture, elder care, home automation, and vehicle automation, among other fields. This lab is an interdisciplinary setting that provides students and teachers with a dedicated place for collaboration and creativity. In this lab, students can study about a range of research topics, such as hybrid systems, embedded systems, sensory fusion, distributed artificial intelligence, computer vision, machine learning, human-machine interaction, localization, planning, navigation, and so on. This lab also teaches students about the uses of different robotics simulation software, namely, ROS, LabVIEW, MATLAB, and so on.

Automation Lab:

The Automation Lab offers students to become familiar with a wide range of automation tools such as, Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Distributed Control System (DCS), Human Machine Interface (HMI), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), Instrumentation, Motion Control, Robotics and so on. It also facilitates to do various industrial projects based on different automation systems, namely, Fixed Automation (used in high volume production with dedicated equipment), Programmable Automation (used for a changeable sequence of operation and configuration of the machines using electronic controls), Flexible Automation (used in computer controlled manufacturing systems), and Integrated Automation (used for complete automation of a manufacturing plant).

AI and Image Processing Lab:

The AI and Image Processing Lab introduces students to various disciplines and situations in which artificial intelligence takes control of our lives through hands-on activities. This lab provides a basic knowledge of python programing, the basics of neural network programing, forward propagation and backward propagation steps of the algorithm, and how to implement deep neural networks efficiently. In addition, this is a place where students may learn how artificial intelligence can help with image processing. By using AI to provide valuable prior knowledge from an extensive image database, this lab can allow advanced image processing in Image Enhancement, Image Classification, Automatic Target Recognition, Moving Objects Tracking, Microscopic Imaging, and other areas.

Computer Integrated Manufacturing Lab:

In the Computer-Integrated Manufacturing lab, students can study how to incorporate computers into manufacturing. This entails utilizing computers to design products, run production processes and integrate them into systems, and collect manufacturing data. It offers a wide range of automation equipment for characterizing, developing, running, and troubleshooting traditional robotics and industrial automation systems in process and production. It may also help students learn about CNC machining, robotic assembly, machine vision-based inspection, automated material handling and storage, as well as CIM modelling, simulation, and performance analysis.
