Two Days long Conference on ‘Weather Forecasting and Advances in Physics’ was held at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) organized by the Department of Physics with supported by Ministry of Education and Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC). In the inaugural ceremony of the conference Prof. Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Secretary, Bangladesh Academy of Science was present as chief guest while Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, VC, KUET was present as Chief Patron and Prof. Dr. D. A. Quadir, VC, NPI University, Manikgonj was present as special guest. Welcome speech and vote of thanks gradually delivered by the Head of the Department of Physics Prof. Dr. Md. Mahbub Alam and Prof. Dr. shibendra Shekher Sikder of KUET. The Convener of the conference Prof. Dr. Md. Abdullah Elias Akhter, Department of Physics of KUET was presided over the event. After inaugural ceremony plenary session was presented by the Dr. S. K. Roy Bhowmik, India Meteorological Department (IMD), India, Dr. Nadao Kohno, Meteorological Research Institute, Japan Meteorological Agency, Japan, Dr. A. K. M. Abdul Hakim, Department of Glass and Ceramic Engineering, BUET, Bangladesh. Scientists, Scholars, Teachers, Academicians and others from home and abroad were attend in the Conference. In two days conference total 153 papers in 14 sessions including 1 plenary session and 1 poster session were presented.

KUET VC Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir termed Rabindranath the poet of the humane soul, as he inaugurated the Rabindra festival at the University on May 08, 2018 Evening, marking the 157th birth anniversary of the Nobel laureate poet. Later, the VC unveiled the plate for new cultural organization formed by the students of KUET named as “Gunjan”. Chaired by the Director(Student Welfare) Prof. Dr. Sobahan Mia, the VC spoke as the chief guest of the festival, where he focused the humane role of Rabindranath Tagore. “Tagore loved his people. Being a Zamindar, he focused the sorrows of the people. He came forward to remove the trouble of his people,” The VC said. Tagore himself introduced banking for the farmers, donating his entire amount of Nobel Prize, the VC said, adding that the poet assisted poor farmers in this region contributing huge land for the cattle farmers. “Tagore was a revolutionist, so he could leave the Knighthood of the British emperor. As a result of Tagore's feelings for the people and the contribution for the Bangalis, Bangabandhu selected 'Amar Sonar Bangla' as national anthem,” the KUET VC said. Among others, Teachers, Officers, Students, Staffs of KUET present on the occasion. Later, various cultural programme performed by the KUET students.

A team with the high officials from University Grants Commission (UGC) visited Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) on 02-03 May. on 03 May They inspection infrastructure and lab facilities for the establish of Chemical Engineering Department in KUET. The team member were the UGC Member Prof. Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, Director (Additional Charge) of Public University Management Division Kh. Hamidur Rahman, System Analyst (Information Management) of IMCT Department Tahmina Rahman and Administrative Officer of Public University Management Division Hasina Parveen. They visited the Lab of the department of EEE, ME, CSE, LE, Chemistry and Physics. In the opening match Dr. M A Rashid Hall defeated Lalan Shah Hall by 1-0 Goal. KUET Six Residential boys Halls-Khan Jahan Ali Hall, Dr. M. A. Rashid Hall, A. K. Fazlul Haque Hall, Lalan Shah Hall, Amar Ekushey Hall, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall defeat each-other in this tournament and final match will be held between top scores two team.

"Technival 18"- A two-days long technical carnival was held at KUET from 20-21 April, 2018. On 20 April, VC of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present as the Chief Guest in the inauguration ceremony of the festival. Dean of EEE Faculty Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rafiq and Head of ECE Department Prof. Dr. A B M Aowlad Hossain were present as Special Guests. Prof. Dr. Md. Faruque Hossain was the Convener of this Technival 18. More than 550 students from country’s public and private universities and 200 students from the schools were participated in the festival. Line Follower Race, Battle of Bots, Gaming Contest, Workshop, Rubik’s Cube, IT Contest, Sudoku Master, Project Showcasing, Gaming Contest, MATLAB Challenge, Poster Presentation competitions were held in the festival. In the event of Battle of Bots International Islamic University Chittagong have been awarded as the Champion and Shahjalal University of Science & Technology have been awarded as the Runners up. In the event of Line Follower Race Shahjalal University of Science & Technology have been awarded as the Champion and Dhaka University have been awarded as the Runners up.

- KUET Celebrated Pahela Baishakh 1425

Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) celebrated Pahela Baishakh, the Bengali New Year 1425 amid festivity on April 14, 2018. The whole university wore a festive dimension as the students of KUET installed stalls representing their respective halls for Baishakhi Fair with pure Bengali fashion building straw & clay made beautiful huts. Very special “Panta” (watery rice) with green chilies, sort of native and indigenous cakes etc were the main attractions in the fair. Celebration started in the early morning with the enchanting Tagor’s melody song “Esho hey Baishakh esho esho” at the Central Play Ground. At 10am a grand colorful procession (Mongol Shovajatra) to mark the Pahela Baishakh started and paraded the whole varsity campus, Fulbarigate area led by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir with participants in traditional attire wearing multi-coloured masks, palanquins etc. Cultural programmes, snake-charming, kite flying, cock fight, kabadi etc were also the day long native attractions of the day. Prize given ceremony also held at the after noon. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir attended all the programmes. In a short speech Vice-Chancellor said, Pahela Baishakh is deeply rooted in our heritage and we are proud of it. May the Bengali New Year bring message of joy for all and unite all to build a prosperous nation, he added. Students, Teachers, Officers and Staff of the university enjoyed the day long festival. Teachers Association, Officers Association and others of KUET also celebrated the day.

Honorable President of the people’s republic of Bangladesh Mr. Md. Abdul Hamid said, ‘‘the actual aim of universities is to open up the door for fresh knowledge, invention, research, develop creative activities of the students’’. Addressing the 3rd convocation ceremony of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET), president said, “We have to face the future challenges by developing our knowledge and skill to international standard.” He hoped that the young engineers would play vital role in establishing a ‘Digital Bangladesh’ through real life applications of their creative ideas and technological knowledge. President asked authorities concerned to ensure time-befitting world standard education reviewing the ‘academic curriculum’ of global esteemed universities. If the universities fail to ensure quality education on the respective campuses, the president said, it would not succeed to cope with competitive world as per the demand of time. Addressing the KUET students, president said, “You're going to start your professional career after crossing a milestone in life. The country expects a lot from you. With your service, honesty and patriotism you’ll take your motherland to a new height.” On the impact of mobile phone and social media, he said the excessive use of facebook, games, and mails creating isolation in the society, weakening the family bonding while children are getting self-centered. “We must remember technology or mobile phones are not to be blamed for this, rather the responsibility goes to its users”, he said. “Free thinking and cultural activities are needed to be exercised in a greater extent at universities as the educational institutions not only aim to provide certificate but also contributes in developing merit, intellectual practice among students”, he added. Terming the engineering education a very important one to build the nation, the president said the engineering and technology-based education can turn mass people into manpower. “Engineers in their thoughts and spirits should be farsighted. They have to develop their knowledge and efficiency as international standard for facing the challenges of new technologies,” suggested the President. Congratulating the new graduates on the occasion of the convocation, he advised the graduates to devote themselves to the task of nation-building along with their professional activities. The president also advised the graduates not to bow down their head to injustice and untruth as well as not to destroy their respects and morality for their personal interest. On the occasion, a total of 2795 students were given graduation degree certificate, 228 others post-graduation degree certificates, 48 got Master of Philosophy (MPhil), eight conferred on Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and 38 graduates got ‘University Gold Medal’. Noted scientist and educationist Prof Dr Mohammad Ali Asgar was present as the convocation speaker. He said, the most ever adventurous journey of mankind is searching for knowledge. Universities are the lighthouses of knowledge. Our country as well as our world will get which shape depends on how the Universities of the world being shaped so far. Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) Professor Abdul Mannan was present as Special Guest. He said, I am very much delighted to attended 3rd convocation of this University. I’ve already visited this University before for various programs. When I comes here, I’m always impressed to see the increasing overall developments of this university and clean-green campus. - KUET is ready for 3rd Convocation 2018

3rd Convocation 2018 will be held at KUET on April 04, 2018 Wednesday at the central playground at the University campus. The Hon’ble President of People’s Republic of Bangladesh and the Chancellor of this University Md. Abdul Hamid will be Presided over the Convocation. UGC Chairman Prof. Abdul Mannan will be present as the special guest. Renowned Scientist & Educationalist Prof. Dr. Mohammed Ali Asgor will deliver his speech as the Convocation Speaker. In this Convocation 2795 students offered graduate degree and 228 students offered post graduate degree, in which BSc Engineering 2657, BURP 138, MSc 69, MSc Engineering 103, MPhil 48, and Ph D 08. Moreover, University Gold Medal handed over to the 38 Graduates for their academic top brilliant result. In this convocation 1832 BSc Engineering, 91 BURP, 17 MSc Engineering, 25 MSc, 05 MPhil and 07 PhD students has already completed their registration. - KUET celebrated the Independence & National day of Bangladesh

Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) celebrated the country's 47 independence & National day on March 26, 2018 Monday by paying respect to the country’s most illustrious sons who were brutally killed by the Pakistani occupation forces and their collaborators in the nine-month bloody war with Pakistan in 1971. Dean, Faculty of ME Department of KUET Prof. Dr. Mihir Ranjan Halder, placed floral wreaths in front of the Liberation War Sculpture of KUET ‘Durbar Bangla’ at 09:30 AM on behalf of the University. Later, Teachers Association, Director (Student Welfare), Officers Association, Provosts and students of different Halls, KUET Chhatra league, 3rd Class Karmachari Samiti, 4th Class Karmachari Samiti, Masterroll Karmachary Samity, Bangabandhu Karmachari Parishad, Khulna Engineering University School, Unmesh Govt. Primary School & other organizations of KUET placed floral wreaths at the memorial. At 10 AM a drawing competition for children was held at the university auditorium. Prof. Dr. Mihir Ranjan Halder awarded prizes among the winners of drawing competition as the Chief Guest. After Asr prayer a milad-mahfil was arranged at the KUET central mosque to pray for the departed souls of the Nation’s bravest sons. Later, discussion meeting and screening of liberation war affairs held at the student welfare centre in the evening.

On 25 March at 7:00 PM teachers, students, officers and employees gathered and brought out a procession of candle light led by the Dean, Faculty of ME Faculty Prof. Dr. Mihir Ranjan Halder to remember March 25, 1971, the darkest night in the history of Bangladesh. Later, a discussion meeting held in front of Student Welfare Centre to mark the Genocide Day. Dean, Faculty of ME Prof. Dr. Mihir Ranjan Halder delivered speech as Chief Guest. Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) has chalked out a program to celebrate the country’s historic achievement of the eligibility to graduate to a developing country from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status. The authorities of KUET hold a joyous rally on the university campus to celebrate the country’s great achievement at 11am on 22 March. KUET Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir inaugurate the rally with delivered his speech. KUET VC said to Greeting the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the government take challenges with the people of Bangladesh and made the impossible possible. He also remembered with gratitude Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, saying he had struggled throughout his life to change the people's fate. Director (Student Welfare) of KUET Prof. Dr. Sobahan Mia also delivered his speech in the function. Bangladesh has become eligible to graduate to a developing country from a least developed one as it has met all the three criteria for getting out of the LDC bloc – for the first time. The Committee for Development Policy (CDP), a United Nations panel, made an announcement on the country’s eligibility at a meeting at the UN headquarters in New York.
