Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) observed Shaheed Dibash & International Mother Language Day 2018 remembers the supreme sacrifices of the valiant sons of the soil who fought for establishing rights of the mother tongue in 1952. At 10 pm on 20 February a discussion meeting and cultural program was held at in front of KUET central Shaheed Meenar. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was took part on the discussion meeting as Chief Guest while Director (Student Welfare) Prof. Dr. Sobahan Mia was presided over the program. Among other Registrar of KUET G M Shahidul Alam, Vice- President of Teachers Association Prof. Dr. Pintu Candra Shill, Secretary of Officers Association Md. Mahmudul Hasan were took part on the discussion meeting. VC of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir placed floral wreaths on KUET Central Shaheed Meenar at 21 February, 12:01am on behalf of the University. Later, Director (Student Welfare), Teachers Association, Officers Association, Provosts and students of different Halls, Chattra Leage, Theater, Dream, Drupodi, Shore-Oa, Ochin Pakhi, Karmachari Samiti (3rd & 4th class), Bangabandhu Karmachari Parishad, Masterrole Karmachari Samiti, BSMR Hall Karmachari, ESE Association, OKS, Somajtantrik Chattrafront, M/S Suma Engineers & other organizations of KUET placed floral wreaths at the memorial. On 21 February morning Black flags were hoisted and the national flag flew at half-mast atop all important buildings in the campus. Later at 9am a drawing competition for children was held at the university Student Welfare Centre. Dean of ME Faculty Prof. Dr. Mihir Ranjan Halder present as the chief guest and distributed prize among the winners. After Asr prayer a milad-mahfil was arranged at the KUET central Mosque.

Pahela Falgun, the first day of Spring in the Bengali month of Falgun, was celebrated in KUET at 13 February, 2018 in a colourful way with various functions. Vice Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir attended all the programmes while Ms. Meherunnesa Lata, wife of VC accompanied him. Director of Student Welfare Prof. Dr. Sobahan Mia, teachers, students, officers and staff of the university enjoyed the day long festival. In a short speech Vice-Chancellor said Pahela Falgun is deeply rooted in our heritage and we are proud of it. May the first day of Spring bring message of joy for all and united all to build a prosperous nation, he added.

The Inauguration Ceremony of Student Welfare Centre of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) was held on 13 February 2018 at 3:30 pm. Vice Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, as the chief guest, unveiled the stone board and inaugurated it by opening the gate and walkout. In a short speech he thanked Ministry of Education, UGC, Planning & Development section, Architect and all concerned related to this project. With the building of this attractive and exceptional design of Student Welfare Centre, the University moves another step forward to the progress to its goals. Special prayer was also held just after the unveiling the plate board of Student Welfare Centre. A three days long 4th international conference on Civil Engineering for Sustainable Development (ICCESD-2018) held at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) on 09-11 February, 2018. The conference has been organised by Dept. of Civil Engineering, KUET in co-operation with AmanCem, Seven Rings Cement and CRTS Civil, KUET with the aim to exchange views and experiences at national & international level and find out probable solutions for meeting the demand of concept as a whole. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present as the Chief Patron and Prof. Dr. M. Feroze Ahmed, Former Dean, Faculty of Civil Engineering, BUET, was present as the Chief Guest in the Inauguration Ceremony of ICCESD 2018. Welcome address delivered by the Dean of CE Faculty and Conference Chair Prof. Dr. Quazi Hamidul Bari. Vote of Thanks delivered by the Conference Secretary Prof. Dr. Abu Zakir Morshed. In Keynote Session the speakers were Prof. Dr. Md. Mazharul Hoque, Dean, Faculty of Science and Engineering, UITS and Prof. Dr. Khalid A. M. Moinuddin, Institute for Sustainable Industries and Liveable Cities, Australia. Scientists, engineers, researchers and scholars from different universities, deans of different faculties of KUET, departmental heads, directors, teachers, officers, students participated in the conference. The delegates, scientists, engineers, experts and guest expressed that the conference would be able to share knowledge and experiences to develop new ideas about proper utilize of Civil Engineering facilities through use of new technologies. In the Conference 2 key note sessions, 18 technical sessions, 134 technical papers were presented. On 10 February, the closing ceremony of the three days long International Conference followed by Conference Dinner. KUET VC Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present as the Chief Guest. National Library Day celebrated in KUET on 05 February 2018. Marking the day, a rally was started at 11:00 am in front of administrative building and paraded whole campus lead by the Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir. After the end of rally a discussion meeting was held at the Student Welfare Center in Campus. Vice-Chancellor of KUET delivered speech as special guest. Registrar of KUET G M Shahidul Alam delivered speech as special guest. Librarian Md. Akkas Uddin Pathan presided over the event. Students, Teachers, Officers, Staffs of KUET were participated in the program.

Department of Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM) was organized the 4th Workshop on Advanced Engineering Management-An Industrial Engineering Approach’ 18 on 3rd February, 2018 Saturday at Student Welfare Centre (SWC) in Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET). External Peer Review Team (EPRT) visit KUET for the evaluation of self-assessment activities of the URP Department of the University. The team members were meet up with the Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir on 28 January 2018 at 12:00 pm at the office of the Vice-Chancellor. The EPR team members were Prof. Dr. SJBA Jayasekera, Faculty of Agriculture and Plantation Management, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, Prof. Dr. Khandoker Saif Uddin, Head, Department of Statistics, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University and Subject Expart Prof. Dr. Sarwar Jahan, BUET. Two day long Annual Sports & Cultural Competition was held at Khulna Engineering University School & Unmesh Govt. Primary School of KUET on January 26 and 27 at the school premises. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, VC of KUET inaugurated the Annual sports on 26 January at 9:00 AM as the Chief Guest, while Professor of Physics Department of KUET Dr. Jolly Sultana was present as Special Guest. Headmaster (in charge) of Khulna Engineering University School Md. Jahidul Islam was presided over the function. On 27 January, final day of the sports, Chairman of Zilla Parishad of Khulna Sk. The guests distributed the prizes among the winners and enjoyed a brief cultural program played by the students of the school. The Orientation Program of newly admitted 1st year Bsc Eng, BURP & BArch students of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology for the Session of 2017-2018 held on January 25, 2018 at the student welfare centre of the university. The students and their guardians were informed about the Academic procedures, rules and regulations including registration, examination systems, other academic matters, disciplines and co-curricular activities. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present in the orientation ceremony as the Chair. He highlighted the importance of the best use of knowledge may overcome all obstacles even though we have much limitations of infrastructure and other recourses. Vice-Chancellor also underscored the need for quality education at the University of Bangladesh. He hoped that KUET will provide quality education to the students despite the existing constraints so that they will be successful at their professional life. He also emphasized the seriousness and discipline of the students while they will be at KUET. Newly admitted students of undergraduate course for the Session 2017-2018 were also introduced in the function by the respective Faculty Deans. Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) celebrated Saraswati Puja, one of the religious festivals of the Hindu community on 22 January 2018, with traditional gaiety, religious fervour and spirit of pursuit of art and knowledge which Goddess Saraswati provides. The Hindus worship Saraswati, the Goddess of knowledge, music, art and culture, on the Vasant Panchami day with pomp every year mostly in educational institutions, where the students seek the blessings of Goddess Saraswati. Seminar on "Seismology and Earthquake effects to Structures" held at KUET on 18 January, 2018 at the Seminar room of CE Department. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present as the Chief Guest. Head of CE Department Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahjahan Ali, Director of Institutional Quality Assurance Cell Prof. Dr. Quazi Sazzad Hossain, Teacher and Student of CE Department were present in the seminar. Akhtar Mohammed Zaman, Senior Structural Engineer, STANTEC Consulting Ltd. was the key note speaker in the seminar. The objectives of the seminar to understand why earthquake happen, how to measure, effect of earthquake to the structures, use of earthquake data to analyze and design of safe structures.

Orientation program of post graduate students for the session of January 2018 and certificate giving ceremony of professional Diploma for the session of January 2017 of Institute of Disaster Management (IDM) of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) was held on 16 January, 2018 at the IDM seminar room.
