A three-days long International Conference on Electrical Information and Communication Technology (EICT-2017) held at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) on 07-09 December, 2017. The conference has been organized by Faculty of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, KUET. Honourable Chairman of UGC Prof. Abdul Mannan inaugurated the conference as chief guest on 07 December at 10 am. at the University Student Welfare Center. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present as Chief Patron of EICT 2017. Organizing Chair of EICT 2017 Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rafiq presided over the inaugural session. Technical Chair Prof. Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmad, Special Guest Vice Chair of IEEE BDS &Prof. of BUET Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Secretary of the conference organizing committee Prof. Dr. A.B.M.Aowlad Hossain were present at the inaugural session. In the key note session individually paper presented by Dr. Takayuki Makino, Fukui University, Japan and Dr. Subir Kumar Sarkar, Jadavpur University, India after the inauguration ceremony. On 08 December at night at the closing ceremony of the conference, Member of UGC Prof. Dr. Dil Afroza Begum was present as the chief guest while Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present as the Chief Patron. Scientists, engineers, researchers and scholars from different universities, deans of different faculties of KUET, departmental heads and directors participated in the conference. In their speech all the guest and experts hoped that the conference would be able to share knowledge and experiences to develop new ideas through use of new technologies. From the world 11 countries 128 technical papers are selected from more than 393 research papers, which are presented in 33 technical session in the three days conference and the best 5 papers are rewarded. The participants of the conference visited Sundarban and Mongla Port and conference dinner also held at the end of Conference.

Building Technology Festival “BUILTECH FEST 2017” held at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET). This event was held on 01-02 December, 2017 organized by the department of Building Engineering & Construction Management (BECM) of this University. The inauguration ceremony was held on 01 December at 9 am at the Student Welfare Centre in campus. Vice-chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present as the Chief Guest at Inaugural Ceremony. Managing Director of Khulna WASA Md. Abdullah PEng, Dean of Civil Engineering Faculty Prof. Dr. Kazi Hamidul Bari and the former Professor of Civil Engineering Department Dr. Md. Abul Bashar were present as special guest. Head of BECM Department and President of Builtech Fest 2017 Prof. Dr. Kazi ABM Mohiuddin was presided over the function. Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) celebrated the recognition of the historic 7th March speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as a world documentary heritage. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing wreaths at the portrait of the Bangabandhu. To mark the day a joyful procession also brought out with the Teachers, Officers, Staffs, Students of the University and University’s School led by the Vice-Chancellor. Director (Student Welfare) Prof. Dr. Sobahan Mia and President of KUET Chattra Leage Md. Abul Hasan Shovon were also present there and delivered their speech. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) on October 30 recognised the Bangabandhu’s historic March 7 as part of world’s documentary heritage.

“Without Mathematics we can’t move. Mathematics’ must be exercised to smoothness of science. The role of mathematics is undeniable to progress of science.” Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir said while he was inaugurating the 9th National Undergraduate Math Olympiad as Chief Guest. This daylong event for Khulna Region was started on 18 November at 10 am supported by the Bangladesh Math Association and Bangladesh National Undergraduate Math Olympiad Committee, arranged by the KUET. Head of Mathematics Department of KUET and Convener of Regional Olympiad Committee Prof. Dr. Md. Alhaz Uddin presided over the event. Khairul Bashar were present as special guests. The written exam of the students started just after inaugurated the program by hoisting National Flag with National Anthem and releasing balloons. A tea party arranged by the administration of KUET for the retirement of Professor of Civil Engineering Department Dr. Md. Monjur Hossain on November 15, 2017 at 3 pm. Workshop on Deep Learning held at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) organized by IEEE Student Branch of the University held on 11 November, 2017 at ECE Seminar Room. In the Closing Ceremony of the workshop Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present as a Chief Guest and Special Guest was Prof. Dr. Md. Nurunnabi Mollah, Counselor IEEE, KUET & IRC IEEE BDS. The Speaker of the workshop was the Manash Kumar Mandal, Research Assistant (RA) at Ice9 Labs. Chairman IEEE Student Branch Mahmudul Hasan was presided over the closing ceremony.

Fabrication Laboratory (Fab Lab) inaugurated at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET). The inauguration ceremony was held on 9th November, 2017 at 11:30 am at new academic building in campus organized by sub-project office of Fab Lab KUET (CP-5014). “Idea is valueless, if the idea is not to use. Idea should be form in real shape. Fab Lab will be the way to discover new idea” said the Vice Chancellor (VC) of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir while he was inaugurating the Fab Lab as the chief guest. Sub-project Manager of Fab Lab KUET Prof. Dr. Pallab Kumar Choudhury presided over the function. In the ceremony welcome address delivered by the Dr. Md. Mahbub Hasan, DSPM, Fab Lab KUET. Form the operator of Fab Lab Sezuti Zaman was delivered his speech and Tanbibur Rahman was represented the program. Mention that, total eight Fab Lab will be built in Bangladesh under the HEQEP project of UGC. KUET is the pioneer to inaugurate Fab Lab in campus after completion all of its criteria. Vision to the theme “Mind to Market” and to turn real shape of new ideas from the students this project was taken.

World Habitat Day observed at KUET on 25 October, 2017 with the idea to reflect on the state of towns and cities and the basic right of all to adequate shelter and also intended to remind the world of its collective responsibility towards the future of the human habitat. This year’s theme for the day is “Housing Policies: Affordable Homes” to promote sustainable development policies that ensure adequate shelter for all. Marking the day, a rally was started at 10:00 am in front of administrative building and paraded whole campus lead by the Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir. After the end of rally a discussion meeting was held at the Students Welfare Center in Campus. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, In his speech as chief guest said, housing is a basic right of human and the government is working to ensure secure houses for all citizens. Along with the government, the role of private investors is also very important in providing safe, afforded for people, he said. Head of URP Department Prof.Dr. Md. The grand final and prize given ceremony of KDS Divisional Debate Tournament 2017 held at KUET organized by the KUET Debating Society (KDS) on 24 October at night in the seminar room of Civil Engineering building. Grand final of the tournament was held between the team of Khulna University and KUET. The team of Khulna University and KUET had been rewarded as champion and runner-up respectively. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir enjoyed the final competition and awarded prizes among the winners as Chief Guest in the closing ceremony of the event. He said, debate help to enriched every sector in human life. The debater can achieved success in life. To call the students in the field of debate as a part of co-curricular activities, he also said debate helps us to absorbed patience and awaken our open mindedness. Written test for the admission to first year BSc Engineering, Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning (BURP) & Bachelor of Architecture courses under academic session 2017-2018 of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) was held peacefully on 20 October, 2017 at 10:00 am to 12.30 pm. The admission test was started at 10:00 am in stead of 09:30 am due to heavy rainfall by the decision of admission test committee to favor examinee to reach the exam center in time. A total of 8199 admission seekers attended the entry test for 1005 seats in 14 departments under BSc Engineering, Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning (BURP) & Bachelor of Architecture courses. A total of 10500 applicants had applied for 1005 seats, but 10477 applicants were eligible to seat admission test after scrutiny. Vice-chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Mohammed Alamgir, Dean of Mechanical Engineering Faculty and also President of admission test committee Prof. Dr. Mihir Ranjan Halder visited the examination centers. The VC of KUET thanked all members of admission test committee, teachers and employees of KUET, admission seekers and their guardians and members of the law enforcers for their cooperation for completing examination test peacefully. The result of entry test will be appear on October 30 and it will be displayed on KUET website (www.kuet.ac.bd) and notice board.
