Workshop on “Applied Research on Energy and Power” held on 10 October, 2017 at KUET. In the inaugural session Shahin Ahmed Chowdhury, Chairman, Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council, was present as the Chief Guest. Vice-chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was presided over the function. Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rafiq, Dean, Faculty of EEE, Prof. Dr. Mihir Ranjan Halder, Dean, Faculty of ME were present as Special Guest. Prof. Dr. Md. Shahjahan, Head, Department of EEE, delivered welcome speech. Technical session was presented by Prof. Dr. A. N. M. Mizanur Rahman, Department of ME and Dr. Naruttam Kumar Roy, Department of EEE of KUET. This workshop was organized by the department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering with supported by the Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council. Teachers and Officers of KUET were present in the workshop.

The Vice-Chancellor of KUET and the Professor of Civil Engineering Department Dr. Muhammed Alamgir attended the SARDINIA 2017 -16th International Waste Management and Landfill Symposium at Cagliar, Italy, during the period of 2 to 6 October, 2017. In the Conference, Prof. Alamgir Chaired to Technical Session on 2 and 4 Oct. as “WM Concepts in Different Countries” and “Anaerobic Digestion – Biogas utilization”, respectively. He gave oral presented 2 technical papers on 5 and 6 Oct. entitled as “Management of faecal sludge through co-composting approach in Kushtia municipality of Bangladesh (by:N. A. Hafiz, S. M. T. Islam, M. Alamgir)” and “Simulation of sustainable solid waste management system of Khulna city in Bangladesh through Life Cycle Assessment (by:M. S. Islam, S. M. Moniruzzaman, M. Alamgir)”. Another 2 technical papers were also presented in the poster session, entitled as “Experimental study on the safe use of faecal sludge and organic solid waste through co-composting in aquaculture (by:S. Saha, M. Alamgir)” and“Use of Geographical Information System for the evaluation of solid waste management practice In Khulna city (by:S. Golder, M. Alamgir )”. Prof. Alamgir also co-chaired and gave a brief presentationin the IWWG workshop on “Leachate management in tropical areas – Constraints, Solutions, Challenges” on 6Oct. 2017. Before attending the Conference he also made scientific collaboration with the Padova Unveristy, Italy.

Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) celebrated its 14th founding anniversary and University Day 2017 on September 23, 2017 through a series of colorful programmes. Chairman of Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof. Abdul Mannan inaugurated the day-long elaborated program as the Chief Guest. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir presided all over the function. At 9:45am the chief guest inaugurated the programme by hoisting the National Flag and releasing balloons & pigeons. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir hoisted the university flag. Dean of ME Faculty and the president of university founding anniversary committee 2017, Prof. Dr. Mihir Ranjan Halder delivered welcome address. At 10am a grand rally was brought out with the students, teachers, officers, staff and paraded the University campus and Fulbarigate area with colourful banner, festoon and placard etc. At 11:15am a discussion meeting held in the Students Welfare Centre. Chairman of UGC Prof. Abdul Mannan spoke as the Chief Guest. The Chief Guest said that KUET has been playing its role very significantly and contributing in the field of science & engineering and research. He also expressed his warm gratitude and shared his highly satisfactory feelings after coming here at KUET. VC of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir presided over the discussion meeting. The campus also decorated with colourful lights & banners on the occasion. Established as Khulna Engineering College in 1967, the institution started its academic activities on June 03 in 1974 with a total of 120 students under three departments on the special direction of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Later, it was remodeled as Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT) in 1986 and was upgraded to a university on September 01 in 2003 with the name 'Khulna University of Engineering and Technology'. Due to university holidays this year University Day 2017 program held on September 23.

M. Maqsoodul Mannan, T.K. Barua, Md Shamsur Rahman. This time the team visited the place of 5 stored building of incubator & training center, linking Road, boundary wall, main entrance of proposed high tech park.

The online application submission for the first year BSc Engineering, Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning (BURP) and Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) courses admission of 2017-18 academic session of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) started on 11 September 2017 Monday. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir inaugurated the online application at KUET Central Computer Centre at 10 AM. Among others Chairman of the Admission Test committee 2017-18 and Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Prof. Dr. Mihir Ranjan Halder, Deans of other faculties, Departmental Heads, Directors, Registrar, other teachers and officers related to the online registration were present in the function. The online application will continue till 20 September 2017. The list of qualified applicants of the admission test will be displayed on 08 October 2017. The Admission Test will be held on 20 October Friday at 9:30 am to 12:00 pm.

In the academic session 2017-2018 this year a total number of 1005 students will be admitted in 14 Departments such as 120 seats for Civil Engineering (CE), 120 seats for Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), 120 seats for Mechanical Engineering (ME), 120 seats for Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), 60 seats for Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), 60 seats for Industrial and Production Engineering (IPE), 60 seats for Lather Engineering (LE), 60 Seats for Textile Engineering (TE), 60 seats for Building Engineering and Construction Management (BECM), 60 seats for Urban and Regional Planning (URP), 30 seats for Biomedical Engineering, 40 seats for Architecture (BArch), 60 seats for Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), 30 seats for Energy Science and Engineering (ESE) with 5 seats reserved.

Second Workshop: Sharing the Survey Result held at Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) department of KUET on 28 August, 2017. On 27 August, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, VC of KUET, handed over the cheque of stipend among the KUET students from the `KUETians @ Qater Scholorship Program’. Per student 12,000 tk cheque of stipend was handed over among the 8 students of the University. A workshop on “Office and Laboratory Management” arranged by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at KUET was held on 26th August at the conference room of administrative building. Three days long BACS Regional Programming Camp-2017 held at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) from 24 August to 26 August, 2017 at the CSE Department. The camp arranged in cooperation with Bangladesh Advanced Computing Society (BACS) And SGIPC. On 26 August at 4 pm at the closing session of the camp Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present as the Chief Guest while Head of CSE Department of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Sheikh Sadi, Associate Professor Department of CSE of Nourth South University Dr. Shazzad Hossain were present as the Special Guests. National Mourning Day was observed with due solemnity, marking the 42th anniversary of assassination of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. On august 15, Early in the morning the national flag was flown at half-mast and black flag was flown at the administrative building, vice-chancellor’s residential building and all the residential halls of student. At 9:00 a.m. a drawing competition for children was held in campus. Vice-Chancellor distributed the prize among the winners of drawing competition. At 10:30 a.m. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing wreaths at the portrait of the Bangabandhu. Dean of Mechanical Engineering Faculty & Acting VC of KUET Prof. Dr. Mihir Ranjan Halder was delivered speech as chief guest. Prof. Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary, Head, Quality Assurance Unit, HEQEP, UGC was presented the technical session. Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir inaugurated the construction work of Lab Building for Textile Engineering (TE) Department. The construction works was inaugurated by laying the foundation stone on 10th August, 2017 at 12:00 pm in campus. In a short speech Prof. Alamgir said, it’s a great news for the student of TE Department of the University that a well-designed lab building is going to construct which the students of this department have been demanding after established this department at KUET. He also thanked Honorable Prime Minister, Ministry of Education, UGC and all concerned related to this project. Director (Planning and Development) Prof. Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder, Head of the TE Department Dr. Mohammad Abdul Jalil, Chief Engineer A B M Mamunur Rashid spoke on the occasion. Farewell ceremony arranged by the Teachers Association of KUET for the retirement of professor of Mathematics Department Dr. Fouzia Rahman held on August 07, 2017 at 7:30 pm at Guest House cum Club Building in campus. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. President of Teachers Association Prof. Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder presided over the function. General Secretary of Teachers Association Prof. Dr. Sobahan Mia represented the program. Members of Teachers Association attended the function. In the function, crest and other gifts handed over to the departing Prof. Dr. Fouzia Rahman.

Memorandum of Understanding (Mou) Meeting has been held on 06 August, 2017 at 03.00pm-4.00pm at a2i Meeting Room of Hon’ble Prime Minister Office in Dhaka. In the meeting, the expert of Access to Information (a2i) Programme, provide an overview of a2i Programme and highlighted the need and scope of work for a MoU between a2i Programme and Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET). Following this discussion, Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir stressed the need for signing an MoU so that both parties can conduct research in their interested area. Also there was an open discussion, where other participants provided their thoughtful insights. In the meeting the other participants were the Registrar of KUET G. M. Shahidul Alam, Documentation Expert of a2i Programme Md. Mostafizur Rahman Khan, Development Associate of a2i Programme Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Research Assistant of a2i Programme Md. Ashraful Islam and Anika Jahan Elma.

The following topics were the objectives of the meeting :

• Discuss scope of activities to sign a MoU between a2i Programme and KUET.
• Identify possible areas of research and collaboration.
• Schedule a tentative date for signing MoU.

The following topics has come up from the open discussion episode :

• KUET shared their views, ideas and areas of interest in research and programmes that may benefit to both a2i and KUET.
• They have appreciated the internship programme and suggested to open one or two year scholarship programme for M.Sc and PhD students on a specific topic.
• They were willing to identify some specific areas of research where they can work in collaboration with a2i Programme.
• At the end of the meeting, an approximate date was fixed. That is -4th week of August, 2017.
• (v) a2i participants underpinned on joint programmes and research between a2i and KUET.
