Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) celebrated Pahela Baishakh, the Bengali New Year 1424 amid festivity on April 14, 2017. The whole university wore a festive dimension as the students of KUET installed stalls representing their respective halls for Baishakhi Fair with pure Bengali fashion building straw & clay made beautiful huts. Very special “Panta” (watery rice) with green chilies, sort of native and indigenous cakes etc were the main attractions in the fair. Celebration started in the early morning with the enchanting Tagor’s melody song “Esho hey Baishakh esho esho” at the Central Play Ground. At 10am a grand colorful procession (Mongol Shovajatra) to mark the Pahela Baishakh started and paraded the whole varsity campus, Fulbarigate area led by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir with participants in traditional attire wearing multi-coloured masks, palanquins etc. Cultural programmes, snake-charming, kite flying, cock fight, kabadi etc were also the day long native attractions of the day. To observe the implementation status of proposed KUET Hi-Tech Park Mr. Md. Billal Hossain, Joint Secretary, ICT Division, Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and IT visited KUET. On 29 March at 11 am at the office of Vice-Chancellor a meeting held on this issue. VC of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, deans, directors of the Institute, several departmental heads, directors, teachers and high officials were present at that time. They discuss various issues related to the Hi-Tech Park. Later they visited the site of proposed Hi-Tech Park. During the Visiting Joint Secretary of ICT Division Mr. Md. Billal Hossain said, In order to achieve Digital Bangladesh we have to set up high-tech parks with the latest information technology gadgets, starting with divisional headquarters. Khulna is going to get a high-tech park as soon as possible through the best uses of information and communication technologies (ICT). The Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir said, The hi-tech park is going to be established with a view to achieving a set of specific mission and vision of establishing a world class business environment for targeted high growth industrial sector and new business. "Likewise, it will provide employment for a large number of people in this area, including ICT buffs and professionals," he added.

KUET is one of the key partners of this FSM Programme project. The team also met the relevant faculty members and discuss about the technical collaboration on FSM and future potentials. After discussion, the delegates visited the environmental laboratory and the work of the scholarship grantees. SNV Netherlands Development Organisation has started a program in three southern cities of Bangladesh to develop a pro-poor, accountable, safe and sustainable Faecal sludge management services for the urban context in Bangladesh. The programme aims to make hygienic Faecal sludge emptying services accessible and affordable to the urban poor through interventions that will make the sanitation sector more sustainable, competitive and dynamic. This project is being implemented under the leadership of local authorities in Khulna City Corporation, Kushtia and Jhenaidah Paurashava and SNV, while KUET, KU, KWASA, WaterAid Bangladesh providing necessary technical and other supports. .

Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) celebrated the country's 46 independence & National day on March 26, 2017 Sunday by paying respect to the country’s most illustrious sons who were brutally killed by the Pakistani occupation forces and their collaborators in the nine-month bloody war with Pakistan in 1971. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, placed floral wreaths in front of the Liberation War Sculpture of KUET ‘Durbar Bangla’ at 09:30 AM on behalf of the University. After Asr prayer a milad-mahfil was arranged at the KUET central mosque to pray for the departed souls of the Nation’s bravest sons. Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) observed the Genocide Day in a befitting manner on the University campus. On 25 March at 07 PM teachers, students, officers and employees gathered and brought out a procession of candle light led by the VC of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammad Alamgir to remember March 25, 1971, the darkest night in the history of Bangladesh. Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir on Friday said, Civil Engineers can play a vital role to make Bangladesh a developed digital country. He also said, civil engineers should be more advance for marching country towards it cherished goal. He came up with this while he was addressing at an inauguration ceremony in a day-long first ever "Civil Festival 2017" held at its building. He was present at the programme as the chief guest. The day-long festival included commemoration meeting, campus visit, forming civil alumni association, cultural programme and raffle draw. The main objective of the festival was to build bridge among present and ex-students and teachers, creative and innovation work and get more works opportunity among them. Present and previous teachers and students of the Civil Engineering department were present at the function.

Students of the university are the golden sons of Bangladesh and engineers of KUET are in honorary position in the country and abroad, the VC said, they should work to fulfill the dream of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. VC also remembered role of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for establishing Khulna Engineering College in 1974 which is turned as KUET. The festival was chaired by Head of Civil Engineering Department Prof. Dr. Muhammad Harunur Rashid. Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Bashar and ex-students of the department engineer Sayed Mahbubur Rahman, Md. Golam Mowla & Abdus Sakur spoke at the programme.

Later, KUET VC Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir inaugurated Universal Testing Machine(UTM) as the Chief Guest donated by Bandar Steel Industries to the Civil Engineering Department. Inter Hall Cricket Tournament 2017 of KUET was held on 17 March, Friday at KUET central play ground. Fazlul Haque Hall got the honour of Champion by defeated Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall by 13 runs. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall got the award of Runner-up trophy. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present in the final match as the Chief Guest. He enjoyed the final match and awarded the Champion & Runner-up trophies, prizes to individual players, man of the final, best wicket taker and highest run achiever. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury here on Saturday urged the students to build themselves as future leaders for taking the country forward with the spirit of Liberation War. “Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had brought us an independent Bangladesh while his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working to attain economic emancipation to make the country as a developed one,” he said. Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, was addressing as chief guest in a Youth Summit held at the Khulna University of Engineering and Technology(KUET) auditorium.
