- Construction Works of Horizontal Expansion of Administration Building Started

Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) Professor Dr. Muhammed Alamgir inaugurated the construction works of horizontal expansion of Administration Building. The construction works was inaugurated by laying the foundation stone on 23th February, 2015 at 03:30 pm. In a short speech Professor Alamgir thanked Ministry of Education, UGC, Teachers & Officers of KUET and all concerned related to this work. Director (P & D) Professor Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder, Chief Engineer A B M Mamunur Rashid spoke on the occasion. Other teachers, Officers and Staffs were also present in the function.

Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) observed Shaheed Dibash & International Mother Language Day remembers the supreme sacrifices of the valiant sons of the soil who fought for establishing rights of the mother tongue in 1952.
At 10 pm on 20 February a discussion meeting and cultural program was held at in front of KUET central Shaheed Meenar. Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder was present there and delivered his speech. Md. Osmsn Goni Nayeemi, Acting Director (Students’ Welfare) presided over the function.
Prof. Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder placed floral wreaths on KUET central Shaheed Meenar at 21 February, 12:01 a.m. on behalf of the University. Later, Director (Students’ Welfare), Teachers Association, Provosts and students of different Halls, Officers Association, Chattra Leage, KDS, Theater, Dreams, Shore-Oa, Ochin Pakhi, Bangabandhu Karmachari Parishad, Karmachari Samiti, Convainer Comity of Karmachari Samiti, 4th Class Karmachari Samiti, Masterrole Karmachari Samiti, Hall Karmachari Samiti & other organizations of KUET placed floral wreath at the memorial.
On 21 February morning Black flags were hoisted and the national flag flew at half-mast atop all important buildings in the campus. Later at 9:30 am a drawing competition for children was held at the university auditorium. After Asr prayer a milad-mahfil was arranged at the KUET central Mosque.
- Three Day Long Int'l conference on Solid Waste Management 'WasteSafe 2015' held at KUET

A three-day long (15-17 February 2015) 4th International conference on Solid Waste Management in Developing Countries WasteSafe 2015 successfully held at KUET. The experts, participating at the conference expressed their hope highly that this conference will begin new horizon in solid waste management sectors in the developing countries. KUET, in co-operation with Bauhaus University, Weimer of Germany, University of Padova Italy, International Waste Working Group (IWWG) and ORBIT Group jointly organized the conference aiming to exchange views and experiences at international level and to understand solid waste management concept as a whole. Administrator of Khulna Zila Parishad Sheikh Harunur Rashid inaugurated the conference as the Chief Guest on 16 February Monday at 9:00 a.m. while KUET Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was in the Chair. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir delivered welcome speech. Prof. Raffaello Cossu, Padova University, Italy and IWWG, Prof. Echard Kraft , Bauhaus University Weimar, Germany, Prof. Toshihiko Matsuto, Hokkaido University, Japan & IWWG-ARB (Asian Regional Branch), Prof. Sanja Kalambura, University of Zagreb & University of Applied Science Velika Gorica, Croatia, Prof. Liz Bachhuber, Bauhaus University Weimar, Germany addressed the inaugural session. Waste experts from different countries including Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Croatia, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Nepal, South Korea and Thailand participated in the conference. On February 15 at 04:30 p.m. Conference were started with registration. On February 16 at 07:15 p.m. Conference Dinner and an attractive cultural program were also held in a local hotel in this connection.
A total number of 106 technical papers including 4 key-note papers, 1 theme paper and 1 invited paper were presented where research scholars, experts, engineers, professionals of related field exchange views among themselves. On February 17 at 05:30 p.m. the closing of the conference was held at the seminar room of Civil Engineering Dept. of KUET. Prof. Raffaello Cossu, Padova University, Italy and IWWG, Prof. Echard Kraft , Bauhaus University Weimar, Germany, Prof. Toshihiko Matsuto, Hokkaido University, Japan & IWWG-ARB (Asian Regional Branch), Prof. Sanja Kalambura, University of Zagreb & University of Applied Science Velika Gorica, Croatia, Dr. Kaimin Shih, Dept. of Civil Engineering, University of Hong Kong spoke on the closing ceremony. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir thanked everybody for the successful closing of the conference. He declared that the 5th Int’l Conference on WasteSafe will be held on 11-13 February 2017.
This time WasteSafe 2014 is the 4th international conference at KUET. Before this the 1st , 2nd and 3rd conference as WasteSafe 2009, WasteSafe 2011 and WasteSafe 2013 were successfully held in 2009, 2011 and 2013 respectively.
- KUET Form Protest Rally & Human Chain

04 February, 2015 at a human chain program Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir urged the government to take stern action against persons responsible for countrywide violence and arson attacks during the continuous blockade. He also said that blockade and hartal had caused immense sufferings to innocent people. Miscreants and religious fundamentalists have resorted to destructive activities including killing, burning people alive, exploding petrol bombs, torching transports and damaging national wealth and property. Condemning the incident of arson and petrol bomb attacks on innocent people, he called upon the people to develop anti-violence movement to prevent the destructive activities.
Students, Teachers, Officers and Staffs of KUET began to gather with banners and placards at the programme. `Amra KUET Paribar’ arranged the human chain with commitment to resist ongoing destructive activities in the country which lasted from 11am to 11.30am on the Fulbarigate in the city. The human chain programme followed by a Protest Rally on the premises of `Durbar Bangla’ of KUET at 10.30 am. The rally was paraded the University campus & Fulbarigate area led by the Vice-Chancellor of KUET. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, Dean of Civil Engineering Faculty Prof. Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder, Asstt. Engineer Hossain Mohammad Arshad and among the student Saimun and Shourin spoke on the occasion. ‘Alor Misil’ also held at KUET Campus at 7 PM led by the VC of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir. - Annual Sports Competition 2014 held

Two days long Annual Sports Competition 2014 held at KUET respectively on 29 & 30 January 2015. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir inaugurated the function as the Chief Guest Thursday on 29 January 2015 at 9 a.m. at KUET play ground. Dean of Faculty of ME Prof. Dr. Syed Ali Molla was present there as the Special Guest. At the very next day on 30 January at 5 p.m. the Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir has given away prizes among the winners of the competitions as the Chief Guest. Dean of Civil Engineering Department Prof. Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder Presided over both of the ceremony. Among others Deans, Directors, Departmental Heads, Provosts & Assistant Provosts of different Halls, other teachers, Officers, students and staffs were present in the function. During the two days long sports competition 2014, thirty eight events took place where Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall and Amar Ekushey Hall won the Champions and the Runner-up Trophy respectively. Plenty of spectators enjoyed the colorful two days long various attractive competition of the Annual Sports Competition 2014 of KUET students.

Saraswati Puja, the festival for worshiping Devi Saraswati, the Goddess of literature and culture of the Hindu community, observed on 25 January, 2015 at the Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) campus through socio-religious festivals and rituals. Hindu devotees, especially students and teachers of university celebrated the Saraswati Puja at the university auditorium premises, setting up colorful mandaps and placing the idol of the goddess with different types of sweet meets, fruits and other items and articles of handicrafts. Religious rituals, special prayer, Aroti, Bani Archana and cultural functions also held on this occasion. - Training on GIS and RS Held at KUET

A three days long basic training on Geographic Information System (GIS) & Remote Sensing (RS) held at KUET on 16-18 January, 2015, organized by Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Geo Planning for Advanced Development (GPAD) and Design Integrated Society of KUET (DISK).
Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present in the inaugural function of the Training as the Chief Guest which is held on January 16 at 9 am. Dean of Civil Engineering Faculty Prof. Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder and Director of GPAD Training Center Md. Rejaur Rahman were present as the special guest. Head of the Department of URP Tusar Kanti Roy presided over the inaugural function. Saima Rahman, Lecturer, Department of KUET represented the inaugural ceremony.
In three days training program the modules were Fundamentals of GIS & GIT (ArcGIS), Software Demonstration with its Basic Modules, Map Projection and Coordinate system, Spatial Referencing, Spatial Transformation and Working with Google Earth, Digitizing, Editing, Encoding and GIS Database Building, Basic Geoprocessing, Raster Analysis, Map Composition and Printing, Fundamentals of Remote Sensing, Image Processing, Classification and Analysis. Training instructors were Md. Esraz-Ul-Zannnt, Assistant Prof, Department of URP, Md. Rejaur Rahman, Director, GPAD Training Center, Md. Rokibul Islam, Training Instructor, GPAD Training Center.
The Closing Ceremony of the training program was held on January 18, at 5 pm. Dean of Civil Engineering Faculty Prof. Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder was present as the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Md. New year, new books for the students of class one to nine “Textbook Festival 2015” as a part of countrywide free textbooks distribution program held at Khulna Engineering University School on 01 January at 10 am. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir distributed new free textbook among the students as the Chief Guest. In his speech, Prof. Alamgir urged the students to study hard because the fortune of Bangladesh depends on their success. He also thanked and expressed his gratitude to the Government of Bangladesh and related ministry for countrywide handed over new textbook to the students at the first day of new year. Among others Mr. T M Sanaur Rahman, Headmaster of Khulna Engineering University School, Md. Akbar Hossain, Headmaster of Unmesh Govt. Two day long 3rd International Conference on Mechanical, Industrial and Energy Engineering (ICMIEE)-2014 was held at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) on 26 & 27 December. Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of KUET has been organized the conference to share knowledge and experiences at international level to develop new ideas about proper utilize of Mechanical Engineering facilities through use of modern science and technologies.

- KUET URP Students' Clinch Top Positions in Undergraduate Students' Planning case Competition

Students of Department of Urban Regional Planning (URP) of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) achieved outstanding success in a nation-wide planning case competition arranged for undergraduate planning students. The competition was organized by the department of Urban and Regional Planning, BUET as a part of project title, “Engaging Young Minds to Understand and Communicate Urban Problems”. EMK (Partnership Organization of Liberation War Museum and American Center of US embassy) –Aronno small grant-2014 funded the project. The project aimed at identifying various urban problems by university students of URP departments throughout the country and how they can be solved by promoting small scale but significant behavioural changes by the citizens themselves. Student of URP Departments of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Khulna University (KU), Jahangirnagar University (JU), Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) participated in the competition. Submissions for the competition were received in four phases. In the first call of the competition 53 entries were submitted. Top ten submissions were selected for the final phase. Finally, three submissions by the students of URP, KUET were awarded the first, second and third positions. The adjudicator panel for this competition consisted of two Project Coordinators Dr. Md. Musleh Uddin Hasan and Dr. Afsana Haque from URP, BUET and one faculty from each of the rest planning schools. Mr. Muhammad Salaha Uddin, Assistant Professor, URP, KUET, represented in the adjudicator panel. The prize giving ceremony was arranged on December 19, 2014 at ITN conference room of BUET. Prof. Khaleda Ekram-Vice-chancellor of BUET; Anne McConnel-Public Affairs officer US Embassy; M.K Aaref- Director Emk Center adorned the prize giving ceremony as chief guest and special guests respectively. Dr. Shakil Akter-Head Dept of URP, BUET chaired ceremony.

The final match & prize given ceremony of Bijoy Dibosh Football Tournament, which is organized by Bangabandhu Karmachari Parishad, KUET held on 20 December, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. at KUET staff play ground. Third Class Staff, Fourth Class Staff, Security Section & Daily Basis Staff team defeat each-other in the tournament and top scorer Third Class Staff and Security Section team appear in the final match. In the final match security section defeating third class staff of KUET by 1-0 Goal. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir present the prize given ceremony as the Chief Guest. Deputy Director (Planning & Development) Md. Anisur Rahman Bhuiyan was present as the special guest. President of Bangabandhu Karmachari Parishad Md. - KUET's Success at the Inter University Cultural Festival 2014

On 17 December 2014 Wednesday, the Hon’ble Minister of Education Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid, MP, distributed the medal to the students who won prizes in different categories at the Inter University Cultural Festi val 2014 at the Auditorium of BUP, Dhaka. In the occasion, Prof. Dr. A.K. Azad Chowdhury, the chairman (Hon’ble State Minister) of UGC was present as the Special Guest. Among students from all public universities, the competition was held in 20 events at 4 different venues (9 events at RU, 3 events at KUET, 6 events at JKKNIU, 2 events at BUP) during the period of 24 Nov. to 11 Dec. 2014. The student of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) won the positions in 5 categories. The KUET team became Runner-up in both the Bengali (Hafizur, Farhana and Gunjan) and English (Hafizur and Ehsanul) Debates. Also became the best debater of both the final and tournament (Gunjan and Hafizur). KUET’s student also became 3rd in other 3 categories Nazrul’s Song, Modern song and Mime (Suvojit, Shawon and Tushar).

- KUET Celebrated Victory Day

Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) celebrated the Victory Day on December 16, 2014 by paying utmost respect to the country’s most illustrious sons who were brutally killed by the Pakistani occupation forces and their collaborators in the nine-month bloody war with Pakistan in 1971.
Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir placed floral wreaths on Gollamary Memorial Monument at 16 December, 12:01 a.m. on behalf of the University. Later, Director (Students’ Welfare), Provosts of different Halls, Teachers Association, KUET Cattra League, Bangabandhu Karmochary Parishad & other organizations of KUET placed floral wreath at the memorial.
The national flag flew in the morning in front of all important buildings including the Vice-Chancellor’s office. Later at 09:00 a.m. a drawing competition for children was held at the university auditorium. A charity football match between Teachers and Students of KUET was also held at the play ground at 03:30 pm. After Asr prayer a milad-mahfil was arranged at the KUET central mosque to pray for the departed souls of the nation’s bravest sons. Cultural programmes related to Victory Day also held at the auditorium at 07:00 p.m.
At 06:30 p.m. a discussion meeting was also held at the University auditorium with In-Charg Director (Students’ Welfare) Dr. G.G. Md. Nawyaz Ali in the chair. Acting Vice-Chancellor (Routine Work) Prof. Dr.Shibendra Shekher Sikder was present there as the Chief Guest. Among others Provost of BSMR hall Dr. Soban Mia, Asstt. Professor of Mechanical Engineering Department Md. Helal-An-Nahiyan spoke in the meeting. The speakers called for an early trial of the war criminals and the killers of the intellectuals.
- Cheque of Stipend handed over the KUET student

The stipend cheque was handed over among 10 students of 2013-14 session. Among others, Prof. Dr. Shibendra shekher Sikder, Dean, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Prof. Dr. ANM Mizanur Rahman, Head of the Department of Energy Technology, Prof. Dr. Kh. Md. Shafiul Islam, Prof. Dr. MMA Hashem, Prof. Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam were also present during the event.
- KUET observed Martyred Intellectual Day

On 14 December 2014 Sunday, of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET), Khulna, Bangladesh observed the Martyred Intellectual Day by paying rich tributes by the teachers, students, officers and staffs to the intellectuals killed brutally in a planned way at the flag-end of the country’s liberation war in 1971. The day was observed at KUET through various programs as hoisting of black-flag at 6:00am atop all main buildings, a ‘Shoak’ Rally comprises teachers, students, officers and staffs leaded by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir at 10:30am paraded from campus to Khulna-Jessore highways. After the rally, a discussion meeting was held at the KUET Auditorium presided over by Dr. G.G. Nawaz, DSW (in-Charge). In the discussion meeting, Prof. Alamgir was present as the Chief Guest, while Prof. Dr. S.S. Sikder (Dean, CE) and Prof. Dr. Md. Sayed Ali Mollah (Dean ME) were present as Special Guests and the also addressed by Dr. Sobhan Mia, Mr. Helal-An-Nahiyan, Mr. G.M. Shahidul Alam and Mr. Emdad. In the evening, a ‘light procession’ with candle in every ones hand, leaded by Prof. Alamgir was paraded in the campus. The day long program was ended with a drama “Ek Jon Iman Ali” played by the KUET Theater held at the KUET auditorium.
- CLEAN CAMPUS SAFE CAMPUS Campaign of Bangladesh Chhatra League at KUET

The ‘CLEAN CAMPUS SAFE CAMPUS’ was took place at the campus of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) on 2 December 2014 by the students leaders and supporters of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), KUET Branch, as part of week-long campaign taken by central BCL all over the country. Huge number of Students lead by Nayan, President and Sohan, General Secretary, of KUET unit BCL took part in the cleanliness campaign in the entire campus wearing white T-Shirt specially made for this campaign. BCL, KUET unit placed several dustbins of different colors in the campus for solid waste storage. The students also meet Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, the Vice-Chancellor of KUET at his office to brief the details of their efforts. They also handed over a T-Shirt to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Alamgir appreciated their efforts very much and promised to do all to make clean, hygiene, green and safe campus.
- Opening of New Block in Rokeya Hall of KUET

A new block up to second storied, the extension of Rokeya Hall of KUET, was opened by the Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, on last December 1, 2014 at 11:00am for the accommodation of female students. It will solve the long standing accommodation problems of the female students of KUET up to some extent. In the opening ceremony Prof. Dr. SS Sikder, Director (P&D); Dr. Sobhan Mia (DSW in charge), Ms. Shuheli Shaila Ahmed, Provost Rokeya Hall, Dr. Md. Julfiker Hossain, Chief Engr. (in-charge), Provosts and Assistant Provosts of the Hall, Engineers and high officials of Planning and Engineering Sections, and other high officials, staffs and the students of the Rokeya Hall were present. Prof. Alamgir highly praised and thanked the MoE, UGC, Planning & Engineering Section of KUET and the Construction Firm for their initiatives and support. He also hoped that the extension of the new block i.e. 2nd and 3rd floor will started soon after the approval of Finance Ministry.
