A three days long basic training on Geographic Information System (GIS) & Remote Sensing (RS) held at KUET on 16-18 January, 2015, organized by Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Geo Planning for Advanced Development (GPAD) and Design Integrated Society of KUET (DISK).

Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present in the inaugural function of the Training as the Chief Guest which is held on January 16 at 9 am. Dean of Civil Engineering Faculty Prof. Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder and Director of GPAD Training Center Md. Rejaur Rahman were present as the special guest. Head of the Department of URP Tusar Kanti Roy presided over the inaugural function. Saima Rahman, Lecturer, Department of KUET represented the inaugural ceremony.

In three days training program the modules were Fundamentals of GIS & GIT (ArcGIS), Software Demonstration with its Basic Modules, Map Projection and Coordinate system, Spatial Referencing, Spatial Transformation and Working with Google Earth, Digitizing, Editing, Encoding and GIS Database Building, Basic Geoprocessing, Raster Analysis, Map Composition and Printing, Fundamentals of Remote Sensing, Image Processing, Classification and Analysis. Training instructors were Md. Esraz-Ul-Zannnt, Assistant Prof, Department of URP, Md. Rejaur Rahman, Director, GPAD Training Center, Md. Rokibul Islam, Training Instructor, GPAD Training Center.

The Closing Ceremony of the training program was held on January 18, at 5 pm. Dean of Civil Engineering Faculty Prof. Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder was present as the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Md. Ahsanul Kabir, Head, Urban and Rural Planning Discipline, Khulna University, Md. Esraz-ul-Zannat, Moderator, DISK and Training Coordinator Department of KUET were present as the special guest. Head of the Department of URP Tusar Kanti Roy presided over the Closing Ceremony.

New year, new books for the students of class one to nine “Textbook Festival 2015” as a part of countrywide free textbooks distribution program held at Khulna Engineering University School on 01 January at 10 am. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir distributed new free textbook among the students as the Chief Guest. In his speech, Prof. Alamgir urged the students to study hard because the fortune of Bangladesh depends on their success. He also thanked and expressed his gratitude to the Government of Bangladesh and related ministry for countrywide handed over new textbook to the students at the first day of new year. Among others Mr. T M Sanaur Rahman, Headmaster of Khulna Engineering University School, Md. Akbar Hossain, Headmaster of Unmesh Govt. Primary School, all teachers, students, guardians and others were also present at the occasion.

The Inauguration Ceremony of Inter Hall Indoor Games 2014 held on 31 December, 2014 at 06:30 p.m. at KUET Auditorium. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir present the Inauguration Ceremony as the Chief Guest while Director of Students’ Welfare(In-Charge) Dr. G.G.Md. Nawaz Ali was in the Chair. Dean of the faculty of Civil Engineering of KUET Prof. Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder, Provost of Dr. M.A. Rashid hall Prof. Dr. Abdul Motin, Head of the Department of ECE Prof. Dr. Md. Mostafizur Rahman were present as the Special Guests. Among others Teachers, Officers, Staffs, viewers and many more students were present in the Inauguration Ceremony.

A day long seminer of Urban and Regional Planning (URP) held at the URP seminer room of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) at 30 December, 2014 conducted by URP Department. The Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir was present in the inaugural function of the Seminer as the Chief Guest. Head of the Department of URP Tusar Kanti Roy presided over the inaugural function. Director of Institute of Disaster Management (IDM) of KUET Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Bashar was present as the Special Guests. After Inauguration Ceremony, Keynote session was held presided over by Sohel Rana, Tusar Kanti Roy, Muhammed Salaha Uddin, Dr. Md. Manjur Morshed delivered and Keynote papers individually.

Two day long 3rd International Conference on Mechanical, Industrial and Energy Engineering (ICMIEE)-2014 was held at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) on 26 & 27 December. Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of KUET has been organized the conference to share knowledge and experiences at international level to develop new ideas about proper utilize of Mechanical Engineering facilities through use of modern science and technologies.

Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir present the Inaugural Ceremony as the Chief Guest on 26 December at 9 a.m.. Former Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) Shyamol Kanti Biswas was present as special guest. Chairman of the organising committee, also Dean of Mechanical Engineering of KUET Prof. Dr. Syed Ali Molla presided over the opening session. Over a hundred of eminent scientists, engineers, researchers and scholars from different universities from home and abroad including USA, China, Canada, Saudi Arabia, India, Malaysia, Australia and deans of different faculties of KUET have been participating in the two day long conference.

Leather Engineering (LE) Association of KUET, celebrated fresher’s reception of `13 batch students on December 24, 2014 at the seminar room of LE Department. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while, Dean of Faculty of CE Prof. Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder, Dean of Faculty of EEE Prof. Dr. Md.Nurunnabi Mollah, Dean of Faculty of ME Prof. Dr. Syed Ali Molla, Director of Students Welfare In-Charge)) Dr. G G Md. Nawaz Ali were present as the Special Guest. Head of LE Department and President of LE Association Dr. Md. Abul Hashem Presided over the ceremony. At the ceremony fresher’s were received with flower by the guests. Among others the teachers and students of LE department, other officers, staffs were present in the function.

Students of Department of Urban Regional Planning (URP) of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) achieved outstanding success in a nation-wide planning case competition arranged for undergraduate planning students. The competition was organized by the department of Urban and Regional Planning, BUET as a part of project title, “Engaging Young Minds to Understand and Communicate Urban Problems”. EMK (Partnership Organization of Liberation War Museum and American Center of US embassy) –Aronno small grant-2014 funded the project. The project aimed at identifying various urban problems by university students of URP departments throughout the country and how they can be solved by promoting small scale but significant behavioural changes by the citizens themselves. Student of URP Departments of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Khulna University (KU), Jahangirnagar University (JU), Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) participated in the competition. Submissions for the competition were received in four phases. In the first call of the competition 53 entries were submitted. Top ten submissions were selected for the final phase. Finally, three submissions by the students of URP, KUET were awarded the first, second and third positions. The adjudicator panel for this competition consisted of two Project Coordinators Dr. Md. Musleh Uddin Hasan and Dr. Afsana Haque from URP, BUET and one faculty from each of the rest planning schools. Mr. Muhammad Salaha Uddin, Assistant Professor, URP, KUET, represented in the adjudicator panel. The prize giving ceremony was arranged on December 19, 2014 at ITN conference room of BUET. Prof. Khaleda Ekram-Vice-chancellor of BUET; Anne McConnel-Public Affairs officer US Embassy; M.K Aaref- Director Emk Center adorned the prize giving ceremony as chief guest and special guests respectively. The final match & prize given ceremony of Bijoy Dibosh Football Tournament, which is organized by Bangabandhu Karmachari Parishad, KUET held on 20 December, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. at KUET staff play ground. Third Class Staff, Fourth Class Staff, Security Section & Daily Basis Staff team defeat each-other in the tournament and top scorer Third Class Staff and Security Section team appear in the final match. In the final match security section defeating third class staff of KUET by 1-0 Goal. Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir present the prize given ceremony as the Chief Guest. Deputy Director (Planning & Development) Md. Anisur Rahman Bhuiyan was present as the special guest. President of Bangabandhu Karmachari Parishad Md. Babul Akhter presided over the prize given ceremony. General Secretary of Bangabandhu Karmachari Parishad Md. Rabiul Islam Shohag represents the function. On 17 December 2014 Wednesday, the Hon’ble Minister of Education Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid, MP, distributed the medal to the students who won prizes in different categories at the Inter University Cultural Festi val 2014 at the Auditorium of BUP, Dhaka. In the occasion, Prof. Dr. A.K. Azad Chowdhury, the chairman (Hon’ble State Minister) of UGC was present as the Special Guest. Among students from all public universities, the competition was held in 20 events at 4 different venues (9 events at RU, 3 events at KUET, 6 events at JKKNIU, 2 events at BUP) during the period of 24 Nov. to 11 Dec. 2014. The student of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) won the positions in 5 categories. The KUET team became Runner-up in both the Bengali (Hafizur, Farhana and Gunjan) and English (Hafizur and Ehsanul) Debates. Also became the best debater of both the final and tournament (Gunjan and Hafizur). KUET’s student also became 3rd in other 3 categories Nazrul’s Song, Modern song and Mime (Suvojit, Shawon and Tushar).

Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) celebrated the Victory Day on December 16, 2014 by paying utmost respect to the country’s most illustrious sons who were brutally killed by the Pakistani occupation forces and their collaborators in the nine-month bloody war with Pakistan in 1971.

Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir placed floral wreaths on Gollamary Memorial Monument at 16 December, 12:01 a.m. on behalf of the University. Later, Director (Students’ Welfare), Provosts of different Halls, Teachers Association, KUET Cattra League, Bangabandhu Karmochary Parishad & other organizations of KUET placed floral wreath at the memorial.

The national flag flew in the morning in front of all important buildings including the Vice-Chancellor’s office. Later at 09:00 a.m. a drawing competition for children was held at the university auditorium. A charity football match between Teachers and Students of KUET was also held at the play ground at 03:30 pm. After Asr prayer a milad-mahfil was arranged at the KUET central mosque to pray for the departed souls of the nation’s bravest sons. Cultural programmes related to Victory Day also held at the auditorium at 07:00 p.m.

At 06:30 p.m. a discussion meeting was also held at the University auditorium with In-Charg Director (Students’ Welfare) Dr. G.G. Md. Nawyaz Ali in the chair. Acting Vice-Chancellor (Routine Work) Prof. Dr.Shibendra Shekher Sikder was present there as the Chief Guest. Among others Provost of BSMR hall Dr. Soban Mia, Asstt. Professor of Mechanical Engineering Department Md. Helal-An-Nahiyan spoke in the meeting. The speakers called for an early trial of the war criminals and the killers of the intellectuals.

On 15 December, 2014 at 4 p.m. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, VC of KUET, handed over the cheque of stipend at the office of the Vice-Chancellor. The stipend cheque was handed over among 10 students of 2013-14 session. Among others, Prof. Dr. Shibendra shekher Sikder, Dean, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Prof. Dr. ANM Mizanur Rahman, Head of the Department of Energy Technology, Prof. Dr. Kh. Md. Shafiul Islam, Prof. Dr. MMA Hashem, Prof. Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam were also present during the event.

On 14 December 2014 Sunday, of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET), Khulna, Bangladesh observed the Martyred Intellectual Day by paying rich tributes by the teachers, students, officers and staffs to the intellectuals killed brutally in a planned way at the flag-end of the country’s liberation war in 1971. The day was observed at KUET through various programs as hoisting of black-flag at 6:00am atop all main buildings, a ‘Shoak’ Rally comprises teachers, students, officers and staffs leaded by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir at 10:30am paraded from campus to Khulna-Jessore highways. After the rally, a discussion meeting was held at the KUET Auditorium presided over by Dr. G.G. Nawaz, DSW (in-Charge). In the discussion meeting, Prof. Alamgir was present as the Chief Guest, while Prof. Dr. S.S. Sikder (Dean, CE) and Prof. Dr. Md. Sayed Ali Mollah (Dean ME) were present as Special Guests and the also addressed by Dr. Sobhan Mia, Mr. Helal-An-Nahiyan, Mr. G.M. Shahidul Alam and Mr. Emdad. In the evening, a ‘light procession’ with candle in every ones hand, leaded by Prof. Alamgir was paraded in the campus. The day long program was ended with a drama “Ek Jon Iman Ali” played by the KUET Theater held at the KUET auditorium.

The ‘CLEAN CAMPUS SAFE CAMPUS’ was took place at the campus of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) on 2 December 2014 by the students leaders and supporters of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), KUET Branch, as part of week-long campaign taken by central BCL all over the country. Huge number of Students lead by Nayan, President and Sohan, General Secretary, of KUET unit BCL took part in the cleanliness campaign in the entire campus wearing white T-Shirt specially made for this campaign. BCL, KUET unit placed several dustbins of different colors in the campus for solid waste storage. The students also meet Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, the Vice-Chancellor of KUET at his office to brief the details of their efforts. They also handed over a T-Shirt to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Alamgir appreciated their efforts very much and promised to do all to make clean, hygiene, green and safe campus.

A new block up to second storied, the extension of Rokeya Hall of KUET, was opened by the Vice-Chancellor of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, on last December 1, 2014 at 11:00am for the accommodation of female students. It will solve the long standing accommodation problems of the female students of KUET up to some extent. In the opening ceremony Prof. Dr. SS Sikder, Director (P&D); Dr. Sobhan Mia (DSW in charge), Ms. Shuheli Shaila Ahmed, Provost Rokeya Hall, Dr. Md. Julfiker Hossain, Chief Engr. (in-charge), Provosts and Assistant Provosts of the Hall, Engineers and high officials of Planning and Engineering Sections, and other high officials, staffs and the students of the Rokeya Hall were present. Prof. Alamgir highly praised and thanked the MoE, UGC, Planning & Engineering Section of KUET and the Construction Firm for their initiatives and support. He also hoped that the extension of the new block i.e. 2nd and 3rd floor will started soon after the approval of Finance Ministry.

A four members team comprising the high officials from the Ministry of Education (MoE) and University Grants Commission Bangladesh (UGC) visited KUET on 29 November 2014 to observe the ongoing construction activities specially under the renovation and repairing works of old infrastructures. The team members are the Mr. Swapan Kumar Gosh, Chief Planning and Omar Md. Imrul Mohsin, Deputy Chief Palnning, from MoE and Engr. Abdur Rezzaq, Director (P&D) and Dr. Nasima Rahman, Project Director from UGC. They meet Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, the Vice-Chancellor of KUET at his office at 10:30am. During that time, Prof. Dr. SS Sikder, Director (P&D); Engr. ABM Mamunur Rashid, Chief Engineer.; Engr. Anisur Rahman Bhiuyan, Deputy Director, Dr. Md. Julfikar Hossain, Ex. Engr., Mr. Abu Hayet, Ex. Engr.; Engr. Iqramul Haque, AD, Engr. Aslam Parvez, were present. The team visited the entire campus to see ongoing construction works and also the completed works. After the field visit, the PIC meeting was held presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of KUET. The team members expressed their satisfaction on the completed and ongoing works and gave some suggestions. The team also applauded the recent development took place at KUET under the leadership of present VC of KUET Prof. Alamgir. They also praised the greenery and cleanliness of the campus.

The two days long (28-29 Nov. 2014) Association of Universities of Bangladesh (AUB) Inter University Debate and Recitation completion were ended successfully in KUET campus. On 29th Nov. Saturday, as the Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, the Vice-Chancellor of KUET, handed over the token prizes to the winner at a simple closing ceremony in the KUET auditorium. Prof. Dr. SS Sikder, Dean of CE, Prof. Dr. Syed Ali Mollah, Dean ME, Mr. Md. O.G. Nayeem, DSW (in-charge) were present as the Special Guests while Mr. Helal-An-Nahiyan, Moderator, KDS, presided over. In the Bangla Debate, the team from CU became the Champion, while KUET’s team became the Runner-up. In English Debate, the team from JU became the Champion, while KUET’s team became the Runner-up. In recitation, JU became 1st, while IU became 2nd and CU became the 3rd. The prize giving ceremony will be held in Dhaka on next 12 Dec. 2014.

Today, the 28 November 2014 at 10:00am, the Inter University Debate (both Bangla and English) and Recitation (Bangla) were kicked-off in the green campus of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology in a festive mood. The team from different public universities already arrived in the campus to participate in the event. This program is organized by the Association of Universities of Bangladesh (AUB), the apex body of the public universities in Bangladesh, locally coordinated by the Director of Students Welfare (DSW) and KUET Debating Society (KDS). Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, the Vice-Chancellor of KUET, inaugurated the event in front of the KUET auditorium by hoisting the national flag with the national anthem. While, Mr. Md. O.G. Nayeem, DSW (in-charge) and Mr. Helal-An-Nahiyan, Moderator, KDS, hoisted the KUET and AUB flags. The competition will took place in four parallel venues and will be ended on tomorrow evening in a Closing Ceremony at KUET Auditorium just after the final round of Bangla debate.

On 27 November 2014, Thursday, a 15 member team of Journalists from Bangladesh Agriculture University made a courtesy call to the Vice-Chancellor of KUET, Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir at his office at 10:00am. The team briefed various activities they have been conducting at the BAU campus to maintain the excellent academic environment. The team members applauded the recent development took place at KUET under the leadership of present VC of KUET Prof. Alamgir. They praised the greenery and cleanliness of the campus. Prof. Alamgir thanked them for visiting KUET.

Teachers, Students, Officers and Staffs of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) from different departments and sections staged demonstration and formed “HUMAN CHAIN” wearing black badge in front of ‘Durbar Bangla’ on the campus on 20 Nov. 2014 from 11:00 to 11:45am demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the Killers of Rajshahi University Teacher Prof. K.M. Shafiul Islam. Progressive and Responsible Teachers of KUET arranged this demonstration program at KUET campus. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, the Vice-Chancellor of KUET was also present. The speakers at the demonstration urged the law enforcing agencies to arrest the killers to ensure exemplary punishment without further delay.

A seminar was held at the meeting room of Administrative Building of KUET on last 10 Nov. 2014, at 3:00pm, in which Dr. Md. Julfikar Hossain, the Executive Engineer of KUET, described the scope and main outcomes of his Ph.D. dissertation and illustrated some aspects on the present construction practices in Japan. Dr. Julfikar acquired Ph.D. from Saga University in the month of Sept. 2014 with the dissertation title as “Coefficient of Consolidation of Clayey Deposits from Piezocone Test Results”.Prof. Alamgir, the VC of KUET was present as the Chief Guest, while the Teachers, Engineers and Officers from the relevant departments and sections including Prof. SS Sikder, Dean of CE Faculty, Engr. ABM Mamunur Rashid, Chief Engr. were present. Dr. Julfikar stressed the need to follow the new outlook in the construction of buildings in our country. It is to be noted here, Dr. Julfikar got his B.Sc.Eng. in 2002 and M.Sc. Eng. degree 2007 from the CE dept. of KUET and Prof. Alamgir was his Masters’ supervisor. Dr. Julfikar was greeted warmly by flowers for timely completion of Ph.D. from Japan and also for resuming his job here.
