Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) has decided to open Bio Medical Engineering (BME) at undergraduate level from 2014-15 academic year. University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh approved it on July 17, 2014 following the decision of university academic council meeting on September 12, 2013 and hence approved by the syndicate. The Bio Medical Engineering Department is already in KUET since 2007 at post-graduate level. In the meantime, many students successfully completed their M.Sc. Engineering Degree in Bio Medical Engineering. A total of 30 students will get the opportunity for admission at this department in the first year B.Sc. Engineering course from the current academic session. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, the Vice-Chancellor of KUET said that the start of Biomedical Engineering in the undergraduate level is the first time in the country, and it will definitely play a vital role to meet the current demand in this sector, in which Bangladeh is lagging behind.

At the 47th meeting of Syndicate held on 26.o6.2014, the logo of KUET is modified as per the recommendation of the committee formed at the 46th meeting of syndicate of KUET to revise the existing logo after consulting with the relevant stakeholders and the consideration of other issues. Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) has got "Prime Minister's National Award on Tree Plantation-2013" for tree plantation on the campus. The ministry of environment and forest finalised the nomination for KUET for the Prime Minister's national award on tree plantation, 2013. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina handover the Award on June 5, 2014 at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital at a function marking World Environment Day 2014.

In category ‘Kha’ (College/University), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology got the second prize. KUET got a certificate, a crest and cash Tk.20,000 for the award.

On 27 February 2014, Professor Dr. Quazi Hamidul Bari of the Department of Civil Engineering, Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) with his collaborative research group of the Department of Environmental Systems Engineering, Ritsumeikan University (RU), Japan have achieved a patent No. 1005184 for their invention on ‘A simple filter for he removal of arsenic and iron from groundwater’. The members of the research group were Prof. Dr. Jun Nakajima, Dr. Md. Shafiquzzaman and Prof. Dr. Quazi Hamidul Bari. Te patent certificate of invention has issued by the Department of Patents, Designs & Trademarks, Ministry of Industries, Bangladesh.

Begum Ashrafunnesa, mother of Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, Vice-Chancellor, Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET), died due to old age complication on May 28, 2014 at 4:15 pm. at City hospital in Dhaka. She was 85 and was suffering from old age complications since long days. She left behind six sons and three daughters. She was buried beside her husband Dr. Md. Idris grave at her family graveyard in Rahimanagar, Kochua, Chadpur after namaz-e-janaza held at May, 29 at 8 am. Teachers, Students, Officers & Stuff of KUET expressed deep shock at the death of Begum Ashrafunnesa and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members. All are prayed for the salvation of the departed soul.

New building of Medical Centre of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) was unveiled at 12 pm. on 12 May 2014 Monday. VC of KUET Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, as the chief guest, unveiled the stone board and inaugurated it by cut ribbons and walk inside. In a short speech, Prof. Alamgir thanked Ministry of Education, UGC, Planning & Development section and Engineering Section of KUET, Architect and all concerned related to this project. With the building of this attractive and exceptional design of KUET Medical Centre, the University moves another step forward to the progress to its goals. Special prayer was also held just after the unveiling the plate board of New building of KUET Medical Centre. Director (Planning and Development) Prof. Dr. Shibendra Shekher Sikder, Chif Medical Officer Dr. Rifat Sultana Shelley, Chief Engineer A B M Mamunur Rashid spoke on the Ceremony.
